Question about 1999 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup
I have a problem with my 99 GMC sierra. Went into 4X4 and will not come out. You can hear the shift motor running when you push the buttons, but does not shift out. Note, I did not put it into 4X4 it went there by it self.
I had the same problem with a ford just recently, I tested everything related and all was ok. I scanned the computer and I had an ignition code stored but no check engine light on. I cleared the code and heard the solenoid unlatch and 4x4 light went off.

There is a solenoid (4wd mode switch) that engages the 4wd, connected to the switch attached to the front axle. Either the solenoid, or the control located on the front axel must be replaced. The part is not expensive , the mode switch is about $140.
