Yes, the gas doesn't burn 100% and deposit builds up on your spark plug.

Why is there a cylinder 2 misfire?


Check these three things in the misfiring cylinder: spark, gas, and compression. One of them is wrong or missing. For spark check the spark plug and wire. Make sure you have spark on the plug wire, a strong blue spark. For gas, the fuel/air mixture may be wrong. Does the fuel injector pulse, putting gas into the cylinder? Possibly you may have a leaking injector or a clogged injector.

If gas and spark seem okay, you need to check compression in the cylinder. Low compression will cause a misfire. If compression is 20 or 25% lower than adjacent cylinders, that could be causing a misfire. For example, say numbers 1 and 3 cylinders had about 150 psi compression. 80% of 150 = 120, so if cylinder 2 is 120psi or less, that could be setting the misfire code. Low compression can be caused by valves not seating well, or bad piston rings, bad head gasket- something in the combustion area of the cylinder is losing compression.

Did you check for spark at more than one or two spark plugs? The spark is there, and the spark plugs are wet with gas? Is it flooded? Or is it getting too much gas? For a flooded engine, you know to open the intake valve wide open by holding the gas pedal to the floor, and cranking for up to 15 seconds? This will let a lot of air in and clear out most of the excess gas. Or have you tried this already?
Spark, gas, and compression: that is all that the cylinders need to run. In a well-timed engine, that is. A little gas/air mixture, then compression, then a spark is delivered and it runs. One of those three things is not right or missing for your engine not to start. Or you will have to recheck timing.

WHEN I GIVE IT GAS IT START TO MISFIRE


Misfires are caused by one of 3 things-gas, spark, or compression-one of those is the problem. For gas, check the fuel pressure and see if it is at the right pressure for your car. Low fuel pressure will cause misfires. If pressure is good, it could still be an injector problem, like a clogged injector. If low pressure, suspect the fuel pump or the fuel filter.
For an ignition spark problem, check your spark plugs. Pull them out and inspect them for broken or cracked plugs, check the spark plug gap, check for oil fouled plugs. You may be able to isolate the misfire to a cylinder or two by the plugs condition. A misfiring plug or cylinder should show more black, sooty deposits than the other plugs. A normal firing plug will have a tan or brown colored insulator on the end with very little deposits. If the plugs are okay, clean them a bit if needed, and check for spark on the spark plug wire ends with engine cranking. Buy an inexpensive spark tester, or hold each spark plug wire metal end terminal 1/4 inch from a ground on the engine block, while cranking the engine. Wear a heavy glove to avoid getting shocked. Check that every cylinder is getting a strong blue spark to eliminate ignition as a problem. A weak, yellow or orange spark is an ignition problem, possibly a bad coil, or other ignition part.

If spark and gas is good, you may need to check engine compression. Any cylinder that has significantly lower compression than the other cylinders will cause a misfire, and set a misfire code. You should check for any trouble codes in the engine computer. A code reader or scanner would have to be connected to the diagnostic connector under the dash. What is "significantly lower" compression? About 15-20% less compression. Say you checked and had 150 psi compression in most cylinders. If one had 20% lower compression ( 150 X 20%= 30 psi, 150 -30 =120 psi, or same as saying 150 X 80%= 120 psi.), a condition like that can cause a misfire. I hope I have made sense here. Overheating,pushing radiator fluid out of resevoir when turn engine over


i would start by pulling your spark plugs and doing a compression test to make sure that you have not blown a head gasket. a blown head gasket will allow air to be pushed thru the blown area into the cooling system on the compression stroke. this compressed air will cause excessive pressure in the cooling system causing the coolent to be forced out. sometimes you can fill the system leaving the cap off and start the engine and you will see bubbles coming out. make sure you remove all the spark plugs when you do the compression check if you have a low reading on one of the cylinders then pull the head and have it checked to make sure it is not cracked or warped and replace the head gasket.

Cylinder #5 excessive miss fire. Numerous causes:
Bad spark plugs, wrong spark plugs, worn cam lobe, bad injector, bad wiring from PCM to injector, vacuum leak or lean condition, bad spark plugs wires, cap rotor, low compression, stuck/sticking valve, broken valve spring, MAP sensor. To much to discuss without more details....

Sounds like the catalitic converter/s are clogged up. This would cause low air flow and low compression. I've seen them so bad that they dropped the compression down to 60 lbs.

#1 plug is miss-firing.I have replaced plug and wire,but keeps miss-firing only on#1 plug.have been told that coolant is possibly getting in #1cylinder.also I have been told #1 coil could be bad.witch is...


Could only be a few things. The coil #1, Fuel injector #1, Stuck intake or exhaust valve, or blown head gasket allowing coolant into cylinder #1. Use a spark tester to check the spark coming out of cylindr #1 if checks good then ohm test the injector when it is warm. Check other injectors to compare. Do a compression test on cylinder #1 and test other cylinders to compare. If cylinder is low compression suspect valves and or head gasket. If compression is low then het a leak down tester to test if a valve is broke or sticking. On your sable i would suspect injector or coil most likely.

here are the common causes of a missfire, defective ignition coil or ignition coil wiring for that cylinder, defective fuel injector, defective powertrain control module, intake manifold vacuum leak, low cylinder compression.
