How to replace a cam belt


Line up marks on the front pulley.T.DC remove cover over the belt check marks on the cam cog lines up with a pointer,s then release adjuster pulley slide old belt off and new one on ! D,on,t allow any cogs to move.retention cam belt.

92 dodge D150 3.9l replaced timmin gears and chain new distributor rotor wires plugs timmin is dead on but will not start


Can you take the valve cover off and turn the crank until the number one valve closes, then check the rotor on the dist ?
TDC for number one cyl is when that intake valve closes.
I assume you checked the compression and all 6 cylinders are ok ?
If you have compression and the valve timing is close, you should be able to turn the dist and get it to backfire or something if the ignition timing is the only problem.

Changed the water pump on my 1997 passport & now the timing is off.


I assume you are talking about valve timing not igntion timing. If that is the case your water pump maybe run by the timing belt. If it is you would need to completely disassemble the timing cover and set the number one cylinder to TDC (top dead center) on the Compression stroke not the exhaust stroke. Once you do that line the timing marks up on cam gears with marks on the side of the head. Then install a new timing belt and tensioner. It is a good idea to always change the pump and belt together. I would suggest buying a manual for your specific vehicle for specific torque specs and exact locations of components and procedures.

I need to know where the timing marks should be when installing a new head and timing belt.


hi from uk the cambelt timing marks you req are as follows the crank cog has a dot indent on it and it has to align with same mark on the engine front at approx 12-30 pm position? it is clearly visible then the cam cog you will see a small drilled hole on the cog between the outer toothed and the centre securing bolt ? this hole in cog has to be positioned at top 12 o'clock position then look through this hole and you will see it lines up with a V indent on cyl head this too is clearly visible and advise setting this up b4 fitting c/head for ease ? with these marks set up the engine is at T D C number 1 firing just a note! if you arefitting new belt? it is advisable to replace the tensioner too ! as a kit here in uk belt+tensioner costs £50 if you wish? i can scan and e mail full instructions on cambelt+tensioner strip+renewal proceedure plus detailed diagram of belt set up and relevent marks and tensioner proceedure if you send an e mail address best wishes from n/west uk

Timing belt snapped


hi from uk the cambelt timing marks for accent 1.3/1.5 petrol are as follows= the cam cog has a hole drilling between the outer toothed and the central securing bolt this hole at TDC number 1 cyl is at top central and lines up with a V cut in the cyl head at rear of cog ? the crank cog at TDC number 1 cyl is a pop mark on both the cog and on thefront face of engine quite noticable ! these line up and are at approx 12 -30 pm when viewed fit new belt from crankcog in anticlockwise ie crank then cam then tensioner HOWEVER! if you are considering just replacing belt and tensioner ? be warned this engine is an interferance engine that is to say if belt fails whilst driving there may/will most probably be damage to the valves (bent) due to contact with pistons so would advise caution and suggest compression test all cyls after fitting new belt and tensioner and before rebuild completely once valves have bent they will not contact pistons again but you will have serious missfire/s and probably back fire up inlet manifold coupled with failing to start if engine is high milage ? consider removal of cyl head and check? de coke and replace damaged or best all valves then engine will have improved performance and more milesin future hope this helps

Timig belt replcement where are the markings for the timing belt for a 2000 accet on the camshaft


hi from uk the camshaft cog has a small hole drillinh between the outer toothed and central securing bolt at TDC number 1 cyl this hole must be at top of cog 12-oclock position ? at this point if you use a mirror and view through this drilled hole you will see a V cut in cyl head at this point cam is TDC number 1 cyl firing assume you have crankshaft lined up already ? if you need to rotate the camshaft to align marks ? turn crank back a fw degrees then you will be able to rotate cam without valve contact with pistons then reset crank marks up make sure belt is fitted from crank in anticlockwise rotation hope this helps ?

hi from uk the camshaft marks at TDC should be both cams at 12o/clock positions in line with pointer on on rear of cams on engine? the crankshaft at TDC marks lined up at approx 11 o/clock thebalance shaft/cog must also aligne with marks on cog and engine these are at 9 o/clock position ? the oil pump cog also is market to aligne with engine mark on engine at approx 11 o/clock all above is prior to fitting new belt+tensioner hope this helps ? best wishes from n/west uk
