Problem started this morning, car is running rough, gauges are good except temp. will rise to quickly, checked hoses and all are clear, antifreeze level is full, radiator is full. what's next

You first stem is to take care of the overheating. That you need to start with the water pump and the thermostat. I am sure that your water pump is out but if you replace that do yourself a favor and replace the thermostat at the same time. They are only about 15 to 20 bucks.

No heat coming from the vents.

If it is a manual system--sounds like coolant low ie: air bubble in system. If it is ATC system, Check Codes, if no failure codes, coolant may be low--air bubble in system--most Durango's have air bleeders in system.

How bleed coolant line on a 2005 chevy avalanche

You need to start this when it's cool not hot take your radiator cap off start the engine start adding water into the radiator keep checking it with your finger and keep adding when the water turns warm to the touch keep adding water if it's taking it and squeeze your upper radiator hose continuously to burp out the air keep adding water try that and see how it works

Temperature gauge cold then back to normal

You have to make sure the thermostat is working properly and is the correct one. Idle the vehicle for about 20 minutes and then feel the upper radiator hose. It should be hot to the touch. Drive the vehicle and when the temp gauge falls to 'cold' stop and feel it again. If it is much cooler to the touch than before the thermostat is defective or wrong.

not necessarily true the impellers on the pump depending on the material its made from if plastic can break or if metal can rot/rust your problem is more than likely the water pump

Car is running hot (temp gauge rises above normal)

Try the overflow tank cap. The seal will go bad and not hold the psi causing the water to flow out this is something you will not always see which will cause the engine to overheat or temp gauge to rise. Also the thermostat could be sticking and cause the temp gauge to rise. Are the fans turning on when the temp gets high? If so then I would resort to the above first. If the fans are not coming on, the relay or fan/s could be the problem.

Yes it looks like it. Provided you installed the thermostat in the correct direction, Here's the test, remove the radiator cap, start the car and wait for the engine to warm up, When you can see the temp begin to rise on the gauge the thermostat will open. While reving the engine look for turbulance in the coolant/antifreeze in the radiator opening.
If none is observed then replace the water pump.

It could be very well your water pump from the sounds of it. When was the last time you had that check or replaced? That would be my next guess to the problem...what's your mileage on the car?
