Sounds like your head gasket has a leak. I would also check your dip stick. If there is coolant mixed with the oil also. Then it is your head gasket.

SOURCE: location of engine coolant temperature sensor on

It is a 2 wire seneor under the throttle body. You will have to remove the air breather and it will be a brass/black plastic sensor. A 3/4 socket will fit it.Good Luck

My wife's saturn vue is also throwing the same code. I'm starting with the thermostat because we just did the radiator (leaking) so I know there's no blockages there.

The temperature needle on the 1999 chevy malibu is past the mid point on the gauge and it use to be 1 line below. I have replaced the therostat, relays for fans, replaced coolant, radiator cap. What could...

I would verify that the actual temperature is increasing and its not a gauge\sensor issue.

If the indication is indeed correct, it may be time for a coolant flush and a good look at the radiator.

97 chevy malibu 3100 engine, what should the voltage be to the coolant tempture sendor be?

The ECT is a two wire sensor, a 5-volt reference signal is sent to the sensor and the signal return is based upon the change in the measured resistance due to temperature. The coorect way to test this sensor is by OHMs, not voltage. See the chart below.

2007 Chevy Cobalt with p0128 and "---" temp reading

The P0218 Code is primarily intended to indicate a faulty thermostat.
Have the thermostat replaced

Other possible causes that could trigger this code would be:
Low engine coolant level
faulty cooling fan
faulty coolant temperature sensor
faulty intake air temperature sensor
