What makes you think that a coil should light up? As far as I know, you will never see light from any ignition coil, unless it is ARCING, which is a bad thing because it means that the spark energy is not getting to the sopark plugs, but instead, is being lost through a "carbon trail," which is a term you should look up and read about!

Sounds definitly mechanical. Also symptoms of spark plug failure or ignition failure of sort, spark plug wires, cap , rotor or coil, or coil pack, ignition module, etc... Therefore the shaking and rough idle. Also a loose terminal at the ECM (computer) would also cause the (miss-fire).

The malfunction indicator light came on about a month ago in my Suzuki Alto (2005) and I took it to the garage and was told there was a misfire in cylinder 2. I was told it was fine so they reset the light...

If the code has been a misfire in the same cylinder every time, the problem is very likely the ignition coil for that cylinder. When the ignition coil first starts to go, the malfunctions will be sporadic and therefore difficult to troubleshoot. The ignition coil can be tested for resistance on both primary and secondary windings in the coil to prove it is failing.

Trouble starting vehicle after checking fuses

Not sure how exactly you could have blown or damaged the fuse that controls the coil packs while trying to fix tail lights as they are in no way connected anywhere on a vehicle but look for your coil or coil pack fuse and make sure it is not blown.
Simple continuity checker can tell you if it is blown or not.

My hyundai excel wont start unless i pour water on top of engine (black plastic doodah). how or what do i replace? thanks paul

Hi Paul

I'm very surprised pouring water onto the engine makes it start, if anything you are pouring water into the sensors, electrical wiring and surrounding the spark plugs. Water and electricity shouldn't mix, ever.

Check the distributor cap for any cracks - replace if there is.

Check a spark is getting to the spark plugs by holding an HT lead (one by one) to the engine block, crank the starter and if you see a spark that lead is OK, repeat for the other leads. If there is no spark, change the coil or coil pack.

Once you have established a spark then it could be fuel related. Check the injectors are wet after you have pumped the gas pedal. Hold the throttle wide open and try and start the car, if it starts then you timing could be out.

Adjust the timing with a timing gun.

I hope this helkps you and please vote for me and please don't pour any more water on your engine :)

Bmw 525i 2002 non start,no spark,no pulse at coil,code

If your getting no fire at the coil. that's why you're not getting fire to your plugs and therefore it won't start. Change out your coil. This should fix the problem.

Coil light flashing

Hi Robert
From the brief description of your problem I'm guessing your vehicle is a Diesel? as the light you refer to sounds like the Glow Plug warning. When you turn on the ignition from cold the light comes on for around 5 to 10 seconds and then you start engine Yes?
If the light is coming on after vehicle is warmed up the glow plugs will upset the combustion and ruin your performance, so I would be looking at glow plug timer fault.
Hope this FixYa's problem!
