Question about 1994 Honda Prelude

3 Answers

Just replaced the battery on 1995 honda prelude. Alternator checked out fine. 2 weeks later came out of work and the car would not start. Battery would not turn over. Could this be fuel pump relay? How do I replace it?

As I indicated, the battery was replaced (by a mechanic) and the alternator was checked out and said to be in good working order. SO IT IS NOT THE BATTERY.

When u say it won't start do u mean the starter is spinning the engine over but it wont fire up? if so then the fuel pump is the problem most likely not the relay, but please clarify the post for me about the starting problem.

do u have fuel pressure? the test port is on the top of the engine i n the manifold that feeds the fuel injectors, u will need a special test gage to check it or just see if it sprays when you crank the engine, if it does next step is to test for system for trouble codes, u will need to go to the link below to see how you test for codes.

To check if it is the fuel pump check at the end of the fuel lines at the engine bay if fuel comes out when cranking. You can take out the hose from the end that goes to the filter and see if fuel comes out. While cranking the EFI should be sending power to the pump to run. If there is none, then see if you can have the fuel ump directly connected to the battery. If it runs then you may have an issue with the relay found under the passenger side of the dashboard or the wirings.
If the fuel that comes out is weak, the fuel pump may also need replacing.

The fuel pump relay has nothing to do with your engine cranking/turning over. If your battery is dead, you may have gotten a bad battery, it happens. It also depends on what type of battery you got. Walmart, Deka, and advance auto batteries have some problems. IF your battery checks good, it is most likely your starter, or wiring to starter. If your battery is dead, but recharges good, you have a drain issue, you left something on, or the alternator is not putting out enough amps. You may be getting proper voltage, but no amps.

I had exactly same thing on my boat recently...which has a car motor in it. And I also charged the battery and I also had a reading that said I had charge. HOwever, I tried another battery from a car and it suddenly worked. Don't know why, but it really was the battery. When I put the old one back in, it still wouldn't start. With a new battery it's fine. Ya just never know why sometimes!! Good luck!

1994 Honda Prelude si starting problems

Your starter motor is either not getting power or in need of replacement. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with your car.

Also check your battery connections for no corrosion there as well as by the starter motor. Low voltage circuits in a car are extremely vulnerable to poor contact issues.

1985 Honda Prelude replaced alternator and regulator trouble shooting wires, battery light still comes on

I had an 84 Prelude with a similar problem. I will assume that the car runs just fine as though there is nothing wrong but has the light on. When this happened to me it was just a bad diode in the alternator. If the battery takes a load fine and shows good charge then take off the alternator, take it back to autozone or wherever you bought it and have them test it. I would bet there is a diode bad and they will give you a replacement. Good luck!

Hello my 1992 prelude battry warning ligt stays on wat does this mean

Either your battery is bad or your alternator is not charging the battery correctly. Start the engine then remove the Negative battery terminal. If the vehicle dies you need to have the alternator replaced. If not then replace the battery.

1992 prelude si - battery/alternator prob?

if you can charge the battery and drive it for a while then sounds like the altenator has failed and is not re-charging the battery, good way to test is to charge the battery, start the car and turn the light on, if everything is dimm or the motor dies there is little to no charge voltage, and will require altenator work

Disconnect alternator wiring; disconnect battery for a minute; reconnect battery & see if it starts & runs. If it works, replace alternator. If no difference, could be ECU error caused by alternator fault or carelessness with wiring when installing (spark to ECU perhaps). Check ECU codes (short the two-pin blue socket sitting loose on the transmission tunnel below the dash, switch ignition on and count any flashes of the check engine light (MIL))

Car won't start. Makes a sizziling or "zzzz" noise when key is turned on.

Had car checked again at dealership. They stated they checked the charging system and battery would not hold a charge. Found a bad cell in the battery. The alternator was working fine. Battery replaced. Car has been starting fine since battery replaced.
