Most likely the coil that is sensing output at the lead terminals. Check it with a hand held Amprobe (digital) to see if out put is stable at the leads.

Lincoln vantage 400 fluctuating amperage while idling. Could it be bad brushes or the motherboard ?

Could be a faulty voltage regulator internal to the alternator. May also be the charge gauge. Have the charging system tested. If voltage stays steady when tested, chances are a problem on the gauge side. If voltage fluctuates during testing, possible alternator problem and gauge ok

Why does my dash readings go wild at times?

Some times when a number of things go wrong like described, a common ground wire is not making a good connection. If you can get a wiring diagram for this car, I would check to see if there is a common ground wire for the items in question. Also I would check the multi wire connectors at the computer. Resetting these plugs sometimes can help.

Why is temp gauge fluctuating while driving car is not hot.

Check the coolant level. Sometimes when the coolant level is low, it will cause gauge fluctuations like you suggest, since air is getting into the cooling system. When air is in the system, it causes the thermostat to open and close frequently resulting is wild temp gauge swings.

A/c compressor kicks on but no blower motor in a/c mode defrost or heater

If this is electronic system with digital readout, it is likely the control head or blower motor speed controller. I think your owner manual tells you how to self test control head. go to to find used part. or for new at discount.

Fuel gauge doesn't move despite milage driven and digital readout for miles left to fill fluctuates up and down. Dealers' computer says all normal with car but I've driven over 175 miles on...

This is the fuel level sender, I can't umderstand why an Audi specialist would even think why its computer related... I worked for Audi/ VW for three years and that doesn't make sense. You can find the fuel level sender under a panel that is located under the rear seat bench.

Fuse box diagram for '95 towncar

The information about the fuse should be listed in either your owner's manual or on the underside of the lid that covers the fusebox (possibly in both places).
I would also recommend: for Lincoln-specific research (they have a forum just for Town Car info). You have to set up a log in to use all the features though.
