Question about 2006 GMC Yukon Denali

1 Answer

2006 Yukon SL 4.8L with a check eng light. Had a parts store read the code and then reset it. Seems to be an emissions code and re illuminated shortly after the reset. Where to start at? The dealer wants 100.00 just to diagnose. I am thinking o2 sensors. 35554 mi on it. I have always done the preventive maintenance without any other issues.

Why does check engine light blink when I accelerate?

Hi Ced ,
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is located in the instrument panel cluster. The MIL will display as either SERVICE ENGINE SOON or one of the following symbols when commanded ON:
Check engine ! The MIL indicates that an emissions related fault has occurred and vehicle service is required.
The following is a list of the modes of operation for the MIL:
The MIL illuminates when the ignition is turned ON, with the engine OFF. This is a bulb test to ensure the MIL is able to illuminate.

The MIL turns OFF after the engine is started if a diagnostic fault is not present.

The MIL remains illuminated after the engine is started if the control module detects a fault. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored any time the control module illuminates the MIL due to an emissions related fault. The MIL turns OFF after three consecutive ignition cycles in which a Test Passed has been reported for the diagnostic test that originally caused the MIL to illuminate.

The MIL flashes if the control module detects a misfire condition which could damage the catalytic converter.

When the MIL is illuminated and the engine stalls, the MIL will remain illuminated as long as the ignition is ON.

When the MIL is not illuminated and the engine stalls, the MIL will not illuminate until the ignition is cycled OFF and then ON.

Engine light won't go off have topped up coolent

Was it the check engine light or the Low Coolant error message?

If the former, likely an emissions problem - coolant is unlikely to solve that.

Have the OBD codes read at an auto parts store, proceed accordingly.

The Low Coolant light sometimes takes some time to reset.

You did refill / recheck it with the engine COLD, didn't you?

How can I get the "check engine light to go out" on my 1999 Ford Escort so I can get it inspected and they use computers that record the inspection directly to the MVD

What is the engine code?

Almost any part store will be able to read and clear codes. depending on what the code is, the light may stay off long enough to get an inspection.

2006 Chevrolet Colorado check eng light?

The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL THE DIAGNOSIS & TESTING IS COMPLETED.

Engine Light Does Not Come On

First you have to retreive the trouble code from your computer. The reason the light comes on is because the computer has stored a fault code in it.You will need a code reader to do this or you can get your local autoparts store to retreive them for you.

What does the eng light mean on my dashboard

It means your car's computer has detected a malfunction somewhere. Take the car to your local auto parts store and ask them to read the codes for you (free service). Then you will know what needs to be reset or repaired.

Why does my emission light the light with the orange/yellow indicator still on my honda 2006 ex.should i be worried? I tightened up the fuel cap and it is still on. Just bought this car last month and it...

If the light does not go off soon, you need to have it checked by someone with an OBD II tester. Many auto parts stores will read (though not reset) the codes for you, to determine what the problem might be. Be careful not to jump to conclusions about what a code might mean, as you can spend a lot of money on parts you do not need. The codes give you clues as to what to check, they do not tell you precisely what is wrong. I hope this is helpful.

My emission light came on in our Honda Odyssey last Friday, checked gas-cap to make sure it's all good and tight. Emission light still on... What other problems do I need to check ? PLEASE HELP

Bring the Honda to a parts store to have them read stored engine codes to determine what's going on (a free service at most stores). They will plug a hand held scan tool into a diagnostic port under the dash, and 'read' any codes in the cars computer. They can explain what they mean and give advice on what to do. If you have any questions, post them with the code #;s here, we'll help.
