How long have you had this problem?and did you have any engine or transmission work done lately? It sounds like you have a ground problem.not necessalily your battery ground, perhaps a body ground has come loose or was removed and not put back. These are very important especially on Jettas.

How can I diagnose a fuel delivery problem on a 2003 VW Jetta GLI 2.8L

you can unhook the fuel line where it connects to the fuel rail and turn the key on and see if you get fuel but it's risky you don't want it to spill over the engine. you may just need a new filter or maybe an intermittent short at the fuel pump. could even just be the power supply plug for the fuel pump

My 2003 nissan xterra will not start. It started fine 30 minutes ago, now nothing. All of the electrical on the dash powers up. But as soon as I turn the ignition it loses all power.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. This sounds like a connection problem. Check your battery, clean the terminals, ends, and post. Make sure it is held down tightly. It is either a weak battery, alternator, or bad connection. If they check out, it may have to due with your ignition switch/starter. Check the connection first.

Not to disparage Advanced Auto, but you should check it yourself with a voltage meter-when the car is running, voltage should be over 14 volts, measure it at the battery posts AND at the reat post on the alternator-the readings should be within .02 volts of each other. A digital meter only costs $15 (at Advanced) and is a more accurate test than an alternator that has been removed from the car-when you test it out of the car, you are not accounting for poor connections that might be causing your problem in the first place.
