you will probably find that a timing chain is in the engine for the life of the engine or until it needs to be replaced,

Remove cams, install air hose adapter into each cylinder one at a time and use compressed air to test cylinder. Bent valve or holes in pistons will be very obvious.

if you did not turn the engine over while you had the chain off the timing did not change. if you did there is a dot on the cam gear and the crank gear line them up and you'll be in time
