SOURCE: how to tell if a 1997 nissan altima bent cylinder valves before replacing timming chain or belt

Remove cams, install air hose adapter into each cylinder one at a time and use compressed air to test cylinder. Bent valve or holes in pistons will be very obvious.

SOURCE: How to set timming chain after replaceing timming chain tentioner?.

if you did not turn the engine over while you had the chain off the timing did not change. if you did there is a dot on the cam gear and the crank gear line them up and you'll be in time

Timing belt or chain

it has a timming chain, which if it hasnt broke i wouldnt be to concerned about it unless youve reached 200,000 they usually outlast the car its self chains are very hard to bust, but if you decide to go forward with this the chain runs any where from 36.00 to 86.00 any where in between i suggest you not pay more then 60.00 4 the chain hope this helps you im 100% its a chain

I have an 03 nissan altima engine makes loud clicking noise

1st check the the oil level and the vehicle's oil type.(owners manuel) 5w30-10w30
10w 30 is a thicker oil and could possibly be causing this.(Moves more freely through the engine heats the oil)
