Question about 1993 Toyota Camry V6

Overheating fto hi please help,my fto is running hot goes upto 3/4 on temp gauge then fan brings it back down then goes back up again and so on.heater works fine,not losing water.does not happen when air con on.

Make sure you have 50/50 antifreeze and coolant.if its been awhile replace radiator pressure cap and thermostat.

You might need to flush the radiator, change the thermostat and replace coolant. A garage will charge around $150 for this service. The radiator core also may be corroded with rust particles and stuff. Make sure while you are flushing the radiator to take the rad cap off and check for rust. The coolant reservoir or recovery jug may need checked. That is plastic and they do crack under pressure and with age. I had a problem very similar to yours where the plastic cracked and water was leaking causing the loss of a whole lot of Radiator Coolant. The temp gauge was almost to the Red. It was an inexpensive repair to replace the recovery jug. Think of your alternative as to replace the whole engine.

On another note the oil may need changed. The oil is what lubricates the engines moving parts. If your oil is old it can cause friction on the moving parts which causes the engine to get hotter. Check your oil.

The problem is the heater core is leaking

check center of front floor boards are wet

replace as soon as posible for the anti-freeze (EG) fumes are toxic

My 1999 Chevy Malibu runs hot? It started when it overheated. We changed the thermostat, then water pump, then temp sensor gauge and the temp gauge goes high but only when the heater stops blowing hot...


Air pockets will make the guage do that, and also cause your heat to come and go. Also, a poor radiator, as in rotting, or plugged up, will cause high temperature issues.

Hi,

The overheating and lack of cabin heat both point to a failed engine thermostat which would be stuck closed. At the warm up stage, the coolant stays in the engine block to bring the engine to efficient operating temperature, then it opens and circulates the coolant through the radiator and heat core. If the thermostat is stuck closed, the engine will overheat, and coolant will never reach the heater core, and you will not get cabin heat.

Blinking oil light at idle which goes away during driving could be a low oil level, but may also be a drop in oil pressue. You could have a clogged oil fliter (at best) pickup tube, or a failing oil pump.

Check to see if your rad fan is coming on when motor is hot. if it is then it could be your thermostat. If the fan is not coming on check your fan relay and fuses.

the first thing to try is turning the heater upto full heat(a/c off)if the temp guage goes down THEN CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT...(hot oil,if too hot, is thinner than the normal sae rating so the oil pressure will be lower.otherwise no real problem.

Over heating on gauge, both fans on rad.


I would say check your coolant level, and change your thermostat. And see if it is high fans or low fans when they come on. There is a fan control relay down on the drivers side frame right under the air box that goes bad too if your fans arent working quite right to check if all else.

its either of the 3 ur water pump is weak and couldnt supply the right amount of coolant to ur engine / ur radiator is clogged or your thermostatic valve is stuck up that restrict full flow of fluid to the radiator thats why when u use the heater that uses ur coolant hot water as a heating unit the temp. goes down...

I will normally remove rad cap when cool. Start engine, set heater in car to heat & turn on blower, if you use defrost setting, the rad fan &/or AC fan will come on, and you don't want that. Then while running with cap off, make sure coolant in rad is an inch or 2 from top of rad, and let it run. When engine gets to normal operating temperature on the gauge, you'll start to see more flow in radiator, and rad fan should come on shortly after, to cool the incoming hot liquid in the rad, that tells you the thermostat opened as it should, and the process starts again, engine coolant gets to temp, thermostat opens, hot goes to top of rad for cooling, and cooler liquid goes out the bottom to engine, etc etc. If your heater is not on while doing this, the coolant doesn't get to heater core in most cases, thus creates an airlock, or will cause level in rad to go down when it is turned on, and thus reduces amount of coolant in rad, plus airlocks in the entire system. So, let it run to the point that the rad fan comes on & off on it's own, about 3 times, while you watch the gauge, to make sure it doesn't overheat, if it does, shut it off and let it cool down & try again. if all appears good, top rad up if needed to an inch or so from top, put your cap on properly, add coolant to proper level in return bottle & try it and see what happens. Remember though, I am assuming thermostat was put in correctly, rad in good shape, fan is working properly as well as water pump doing it's job. If this method doesn't work, get back to me with results.

First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze.
