aftermarket code readers will not read abs codes... only the ford scan tool will read the code. youve most likely got a broken tone ring on one of the axleshafts...quickest fix would be to replace the axleshaft, but you can buy the ring seperate and install it if you have the proper tools to do so...hope this helps and good luck

Had the same problem two years ago, and now have it again. Apparently, there is a special tool used to pressurize the emissions so that you can get a reading. Had to go to an Acura dealership about 40 miles from my home to get this done.

Have you checked the fuses for the cigarette lighter or accessory port fuses? These are the ones that usually power up obd II devices and allow communication between the scanner and pcm. EGR on the 4.3 are a very common problem for catbon build up and if it is stuck open will cause rough idle. Check those fuses and let me know if scanner will communicate.
