U 1st need to test fuel pressure at the fuel pressure test port on the top of the engione in the fuel supply rail to the injector tops, it looks like a metal tire vale stem, u will need to buy a special fuel pressure tester to do this test. U should have around 55-60 PSI at idle, it should go up when u gun the engine but never go down, if it goes down the fuel filter or pump are suspect.

From 53 reg onwards, diesel pump is under R.H. rear wheel arch, hidden by the plastic wheel arch liner. Older versions have combined fuel pump/sender in the tank (under R.H part of rear seat).
You should be able to hear a faint purr from the pump when ignition is turned on but engine not yet running.

The ford spec listed in the ford engine control manual is:

General Specifications Item Specification Fuel tank capacity 71.9L (19 gal) Fuel Pressure Hot restart 448-482 kPa (65-70 psi) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) 140-415 kPa (20-60 psi) Key ON Engine Running (KOER) 170-280 kPa (25-40 psi)

Are you measuring the fuel pressure with a mechanical gauge or are you using a scan tool . If with a mechanical gauge, does the gauge have an air purge? What symptoms does the vehicle present. If running rough you could have a fuel injector leaking. Are you measuring the fuel pressure with the key on engine off? If so, did you cycle the key a few times? Good luck

Hi.

Check the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. They are part of the same assembly and are located on top of the fuel pump. To replace the regulator # Disconnect fuel supply line at the Filter/Regulator nipple and releas locking spring tab (2 in diag.) on the regulator, then turn counterclockwise and pull out. To test regulator use a gauge like this in fuel lines:Pump Pressure Tester.
Pressure in 2003 should be 58psi (48 in 2001 engines). Pressure will drop of about ten psi when you start engine.

There is also an automatic shut down relay ASR. If problem is the ASR the pressure will go down when the relay cuts off power to pump. Read voltages and see if the problem is electrical first before going for the regulator.

Your vehicle has no fuel pump relay . Has a fuel pump flow control module .
Fuel Pump Flow Control Module (FPCM)
The fuel pump flow control module (FPCM) is a serviceable GMLAN module. The FPCM receives the desired fuel pressure message from the engine control module (ECM) and controls the fuel pump located within the fuel tank to achieve the desired fuel pressure. The FPCM sends a PWM signal to the fuel pump, and pump speed is changed by varying the duty cycle of this signal.
Plus it has two fuel pumps !
The high pressure fuel pump (9) is a mechanical one cylinder design driven by an eccentric on the exhaust camshaft (1) of bank 2. High pressure fuel is regulated by the fuel rail pressure (FRP) regulator, which is a part of the high pressure fuel pump. The FRP regulator is a magnetic actuator which controls the inlet valve of the high pressure pump. The ECM provides battery voltage on the actuator high circuit and ground on the actuator low reference circuit. Both circuits are controlled by the ECM. When the ECM deactivates the FRP regulator, both circuits are disabled and the inlet valve is held open with spring pressure. When the ECM activates the FRP regulator, the low circuit driver connects the low reference circuit to ground and the high circuit driver pulse-width modulates (PWM) the high circuit. The ECM uses the camshaft and crankshaft position sensor inputs to synchronize the FRP regulator with the position of the eccentric on the camshaft. The ECM regulates fuel pressure by adjusting the portion of each pump stroke that provides fuel to the rail. The high pressure fuel pump also contains an integrated pressure relief valve.
Your best bet is have it towed to the dealer , you don't want to mess with the high pressure pump .

Wen u disconect fule fillter n turned motor over and petrol came out but no real fast is that the pump gone


turning an engine over to check fuel flow only works on engines with mechanical fuel pumps
all electric pumps should produce full flow as soon as the ignition is turned on
if you have a efi car then have the fuel pressure checked at the fuel manifold as that will show a faulty pump, regulator problem or blockages to vents or hoses.

My low pressure fuel pump on my e270cdi cut out under high load conditions.no pressure from the rear.all fault codes tell me the rail pressure is to low


Fuel pump relay is in cavity A in the rear SAM ( Signal Acquisition Module.) on the left hand side of the trunk behind a door.

When did you check the voltage..... you must read it while cranking or you will get a zero voltage reading.. The low pressure tank pump builds pressure to the high pressure pump and then shuts down until a pressure drop is sensed in the low pressure line and it then starts up again.

If rail pressure is too low, it often is the high pressure pump in the engine or the relief valve in the fuel rail. The tank pump is low pressure just to stop the tandem pump from cavitating by sucking too hard.

Mercedes can check the rail pressure and do an injector pressure drop to rule out a leaking injector.

If the tank pump is bad it will require replacement.

On the 2.3L and the 2.9L engines to model year 1988 the electric fuel pump system used on these EFI engines consisted of two fuel pumps: a low pressure boost pump mounted in the fuel tank, and a high pressure fuel pump mounted on the frame rail.

The low pressure electric fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and is a part of the fuel gauge sending unit.

Black smoke means the engine consumes too much gas - possible problem with fuel injection, or you could have a bad fuel pump. I would recommend to check fuel pressure. Fuel injected cars are very fuel pressure sensitive. Fuel pressure is very important and must be within specifications! But if the pressure is low, it does not mean the pump is bad. A plugged fuel filter, a pinched line, and low voltage at the pump can contribute to low fuel pressure. Both must be checked before replacing the pump. U can get a fuel pressure gauge at a local auto parts store for cheap. I hope this helps and Good luck!

Low pressure at the fule rail, changed out the pressure relay and the fuel filter, still low pressure


if you getting low fuel pressure after changing out the fuel filter and the pressure regulator, than the fuel pump may not pump correct amount of pressure. being 1993, the pump has age along and have run many miles, may have gotten weak and not pumping correct mount of psi.

I would like to check the presure on 2007 F350 6.0 heui pump. how can i go about it. l'll be using a presure gauge, but i don't know where to install it, also where is the heui pump located? i would also...


glow plug relay should be on the front are rear of intake.you have a mechanical low pressure pump on the passenger side low near the front. or a electric low pressure pump on the starter side. your truck should have the low pressure electric pump. to check fuel pressure you disconnect the out let line to do a out put test.on the electric low pressure pump.put out let line in a container.crank engine for 20 to 30 sec.you should have a good flow of fuel no dribbles.if dribble replace low pressure electric pump.the mechanical low pressure pump out put test you disconnect fuel line from the fuel filter inlet line.disconnect wire at fuel injection pump electric shut off solenoid .place the fuel line in a container. crank engine for 20 sec. fuel flow looks good.pump is good .if dribbles.replace mechanical low pressure pump.to check glow plug relay you need a .diesel repair ford manual to show you where to put a test light to check the relay.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN WORKING ON DIESEL ENGINES.DONT DISCONNECT THE INJECTION PUMP LINES WHILE ENGINES IS RUNNING.THE FUEL PRESSURE IS SO HIGH SPRAY IN YOUR EYE CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS.GET IN SKIN OR SORE CAUSE BLOOD POISON. CAN ALSO CAUSE A FIRE BE VERY CAREFUL.
