find the compressor it runs off the belt then locate the two lines
there is a high side and a low side there should be caps over the fittings you must charge the low side
to find the low side the lines run by the rad in on side and out the other it runs in on the high and exits on the low
the fitting should only fit on the low side on most vehicles or they could be color coated red and blue blue is the low side

If you are able to drive it to the parts store, they can test the alternator on the vehicle to see if it is charging. If not, check your belts to make sure they are tight and rotating the alternator properly. Last resort, new alternator.

I'd have your "new" alternator bench tested, it sounds like it is bad. Every once in awhile even new or rebuilts slip by inspection. (That's why they have warranties)
