Question about Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

My 2002 chevy truck AC stops blowing cold air randomly. The pressure is fine in the system but one thing i have noticed is that i cannot even bypass the low pressure switch and kick the compressor on. Is this controlled by the ecm or something else? There are some other warning lights on the dash that come on too.

Either the control head or the tsb bulletin that states that wires underneath the vehicle located by the idler arm linkage is being rubbed every time the wheel is turned, locate the gray wire in this harness it gets cut into .This wire goes to the highside pressure switch.I have ran into this problem most often:)

Have a pressure test done on your cooling system, you sound like you could have a leak in your system or your system just needs to have the air bled from it. Check your coolant level also, with air in the system and not enough coolant it will blow cold and cause overheating.

you need to install gauges and check ac pressures. if pressures are equalized then you have a bad compressor. a simple test is to make sure compressor is running and check to see if the drier is cold, it should be very cold and sweating.

HELLO
THE 1ST THING THAT MUST BE DONE HERE IS TO HAVE THE AC SYSTEM HOOKED UP TO A SPECIAL AC PRESSURE GAUGE SET TO SEE IF THE SYSTEM IS LOW ON CHARGE DUE TO A REFRIDGERANT LEAK. THAT IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF NO COOLING IN ANY CAR OR TRUCK NO MATTER THE MAKE OR MODEL

you have moisture in the system this causes your expancion valve to freeze up an stop working, thats why it works for sort time and when it de-freezes stars working again. you need to do a EVAC & RECHARGE with a good AC service equipment, specially attention to pull vacumm por at least 20minutes so you get all moisture out of the system.
Good luck

Dodge Ram AC not blowing cold

By pass both pressure switches one at a time with small wire or a paper clip. If comperssor kicks on replace the swich that you bypassed.
if not it could be the fan clutch ot the compressor. Compressor runs about $400.00
