My grandmother has a 1991 Chevy Lumina. It just started cutting off whenever it chooses. She gassed the pedal and the engine sputtered and cut off. What could be the problem? Could it be a dirty fuel...

I knew someone with a 92 Lumina who had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. If she has had the car for a long time and never had it changed, then it's definitely a good place to start. If the filter hasn't been changed in a while or possibly ever, then it should be changed. When it's a fuel related problem, it's usually worse when the engine is cold. If it's a catalytic converter problem, then it usually gets worse the longer you drive it.
Fuel system problems are usually checked with a fuel pressure gauge. the injectors must have a constant supply of fuel delivered at a certain pressure at all times for proper engine operation.
Catalytic converter problems can be checked by removing the converter and installing a test pipe. If the problem goes away, then the converter should be replaced. I hope this information has been helpful.

I was driving in a heavy rainstorm yesterday and then about 5 miles of driving my 89 park avenue stalled out. It would stay cranked so I let it set then tried a little later and got it to stay cranked...

sounds like you got something wet...when was last tune up? perhaps ignition wires are still wet. Did you go through sever puddles? Might be time for a tune up

1991 Buick Park Avenue sputters at random, stalls-egr problem?

I would look at the Map Sensor or the O2 Sensor then the EGR Valve. As far as I know all vehicles have EGR valves. Get the Haynes Manual on your vehicle for location and replacement steps for all of these. It could also be a Throttle Position sensor or clogged or malfunctioning injector units, the Haynes manual will assist you in isolating these.

Engine/Fuel Pump; Engine sputters when I hit the accelerator.

CHECK THE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF THE FILTER IS PLUGGED U CAN HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.IF THAT DOES NOT FIX IT U NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE.THERE IS A FUEL PRESSURE TEST PORT ON THE FUEL INJECTION RAIL(TOP OF THE ENGINE)THE PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40-47PSI.KEY ON ENGINE OFF.
