04 isuzu 3.5 i need to get belt tensioner to come off engine block its been days its loose no bolts holding it please help

    Bill this tensioner is attached to engine block its kinda loose no bolts their at hold point. its keeping me from installing timing cover

How do I replaced an air compressor belt on a 97 Isuzu rodeo 2.6 liter


  1. release tensioner
  2. remove belt
  3. put new one on
  4. re tension it.

the tensioner
has a mount bolt
and a spring to the mount.
loosen the bolt
and the spring relaxes
take the belt off
the put new belt on.
then with a large screw drive or lever.
pry the pulley, mount so that the full tension is not applied
to the belt (spring loaded)
lock down the base bolt.

see the slot below, that is the adjustment to make.
there are many engines used, and many tensioners. used.
i think this is 2.6L below.
SKF and BECK both sell this kit. if bad,
if seized or bearings loose as goose its bad. many are.
most are this old. (hopeless if old it will be)

How do I change the Serpentine belt on my 2001 Hyundai Accent?


Thank you for the inquiry.
Let's try this procedure:
1) Raise and support the front of the car on jack stands. Remove the passenger-side tire/wheel assembly, using a lug wrench. Remove the inner splash shield to gain access to the crankshaft pulley, using a 10-mm socket. Remove the accessory belts by loosening the tensioner with a wrench.
2) Remove the water pump pulley, using a socket. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, using a ½-inch drive socket followed by the pulley. Remove the upper and lower timing belt covers, using a 10-mm socket.
3) Insert the crankshaft pulley bolt back into the nose of the crankshaft so the engine can be turned. Turn the engine clockwise until the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket and block are aligned and the camshaft sprocket hole and mark on the camshaft-bearing cap are aligned. There is a dot on the crankshaft sprocket and a corresponding dot on the block at the one o'clock position. There is a hole in the camshaft sprocket, which is at the 12 o'clock position. A dot can be seen through the hole in the camshaft sprocket when it is vertical and lined up perfectly.
4) Loosen the two bolts in the timing belt tensioner and pry the tensioner away from the timing belt, using a screwdriver. While holding the tensioner away from the belt, loosely tighten the two bolts to hold the tensioner in its current position. Remove the timing belt.
5) Install the new timing belt, starting on the right side opposite the tensioner. Start at the crank and work up and over the camshaft sprocket, keeping tension on the right side or opposite the tensioner. Loosen the bolts on the tensioner and allow the tensioner to apply pressure to the belt.
6) Rotate the engine two times clockwise and re-align the timing marks. If the marks align perfectly, tighten the two bolts in the belt tensioner. If they do not align, turn the crank or cam sprocket to align and re-install the belt. Replace the remainder of the parts in reverse order of removal.

How do you make the tensioner release to tighten the timing belt?


The belt tensioner keeps the belt tight inside each accessory pulley while the engine is running. The tensioner is made up of a spring-loaded arm. If the spring inside of the tensioner becomes loose then it will not be able to hold the belt properly.And belt will also get loose. The belt tensioner is on the engine underneath the alternator. Its fitted by bolt.To loose the belt you will need drive socket and breaker bar .Turn the breaker bar counterclockwise to release tension from the belt.Remove the mounting bolt at the top center of the tensioner arm.The tensioner arm is loose and will easily come out.If you in-case are to replace the tensioner then place the new tensioner in same place and tighten the bolt which you removed.Before removing or moving the belt check the position of the belt passing from each pulley.so that when you fit the parts there is no problem in fitting the parts.
After its done.Start the engine and see that belt and tensioner runs freely and belt moving from each pulley smoothly.

Hi ive got a 1996 isuzu bighorn ive attempted to change the timing belt but the injector pump pulley moved when i took the belt off. i put it back where i thort it was and tried a tooth either way but no...


Timing belt installation

1. Ensure locking bolts located correctly [4] & [5] in the picture below:

IP = Injection Pump

2. Ensure timing marks aligned [10].
3. Fit timing belt in clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket.

NOTE: "ISUZU" lettering on belt should be readable from front of engine.

4. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt [9]. Push tensioner pulley against belt.
5. Ensure belt is taut between injection pump sprocket and tensioner pulley as well as crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket.
6. Position tensioner lever [8] against tensioner pulley housing.
7. Remove locking bolts from sprockets [4] & [5].
8. Apply a load of 10 ... 12 kg to tensioner lever. Use spring balance [11].
9. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt to 80 Nm.
10. Turn crankshaft slowly 45 degrees anti-clockwise. Use spring balance to tension belt.
11. Repeat tensioning procedure at 45 degrees intervals for one anti-clockwise turn of the crankshaft.

NOTE: DO NOT turn crankshaft clockwise during tensioning procedure!

12. Fit tensioner lever to original position. Tighten nuts [12].
13. Install: Injection Pump flange [6], Camshaft sprocket flange [7], and water pump pulley.
14. Install components in reverse order of removal & refill coolant.

My tensioner is loose


IF LOOSE FIRST CHECK THE BOLT HOLDING IT IN PLACE.IF TENSIONER HOLDING BOLT IS TIGHT THE BELT TENSIONER IS BROKEN NEED REPLACING.

HOW TO REPLACE A POWERSTEERING BELT ON A 1997 ISUZU RODEO


If it is like a 94, the power steering belt is either middle or front, You might be able to sneak it past the fan, not sure, usually you have to take the fan off, Not the four bolts up front but the 3 bolts into the block holding the bracket. take the fan shroud out,2 srews/ bolts, and clips, getting the top radiator hose out of the way helps. Loosen the tension nut up front, and I believe you have a square hole for a half inch drive breaker bar, use it to move the pump left and right to loosen and tighten the belt. Then tighten the nut back up, put every back, you are all set. If the belt is in the middle, you have to take off the ac belt first. Loosen the tensioner on this belt, and wind it down, Then back up when you are done. Hope this helps.

You need to loosen the alternator so the belts become slack. Look for bolts on top and bottom that attach the alternator to a bracket or the engine block. Loosen them and the alternator will move. Since the belts hook to other accessories, you may need to loosen them too. To get them back and the proper tension, you'll need a large screwdriver or pry bar to put tension on them as you tighten the bolts. I suggest you get a Haynes guide for this model that will have photos showing how this is done.

1. Remove battery terminals and secure them away from the battery posts using nylon wire ties.

1a. Fine some comfortable eye glasses (clear or yellow) and keep them on. There are plenty of opportunities to get debris in your eyes during this procedure.

2. Spray "PB Blaster" (loosens bolts) on two bolts that secures alternator.

3. Jack-up vehicle on side to access alternator. Use a jackstand to support.

4. Using a 10mm open-ended wrench, loosen the bolt that swings the alternator. Screwing the bolt "in" or toward the engine will allow play to increase in the alternator belt. Loosen the 12mm bolt slightly next to the 10mm bolt (approximately 1.5" toward engine).

5. Continue to loosen 10mm bolt until there is enough slack in the belt to remove the belt from the alternator pulley.

6. Remove belt. It may be possible to remove belt without removing fan faring. Maybe not. If not, you will need to remove plastic fairing. If you must remove fair, go below fan fairing and disassemble connectors that hold together pieces of fan fairing. Carefully remove.

7. Install alternator fan from above.

8. Check that alternator belt is on all tracks (from below with a flashlight), and slowly tighten.

9. Secure 10mm and 12mm bolts. Recheck tightness.

10. Reassemble battery connection and run vehicle at idle for about 5 minutes. Check belt for proper tension.

11. CAREFULLY check tension of belt. Or disassemble battery connections and re-check belt tension.

12. Reassemble fan fairing (if not already assembled), re-connect battery terminals, and have a nice day. :-)
