Hi i have a question im confused i read back and forth on synthetic oil and can you use it in high mileage engines reason i ask is i just had my oil changed and my mechanic told me that vortec engines...

Best to use Full Syn in all motors-- if you don't mind
the extra price per quart

All the debate & that is all it is- has been going around
for 50 years, on synthetic oils

At 300,000 that motor is done & will use oil regardless
of what you put in it,so the answer is no,the oil has nothing
to do with it

Seems just plain silly for a professional to now after 312,000
to put in synthetic oil, sort of late & just silly, they don't make
money on an oil change they loose money anyway

This might be a silly question, my Chevrolet Camaro doesn't seem to have a block heater. Does it come with one? Is it something that I will need to add?

No you have to order it

Most people buy of the dealer inventory

I only order from the factory so I get what I want

Only need in Alaska or Northern Canada if you
leave outside at 30 below

My 1997 jeep grand cherokee dies. it will start right back up but i cant figure out what it is. its not an oil pressure thing an over heating thing or a charge thing . i cant figure it out. i suspect its a...

The age of your vehicle also guarantee's a vacuum leak. It may sound silly but the truth is rubber grommets, and hose's shrink and dry out over time and the harsh environment under the hood makes it worse. Check all vacuum lines and fittings attached to the intake manifold, valve covers (pcv valve), and be sure to check for a vacuum fitting on top of the intake just behind the throttle body. Does it fit tight in the hole? You can seal loose fittings with a high-temp RTV (Red) silicone sealant/adhesive. Several small leaks add up and your engine, heat/AC, and transmission will be all to glad to tell you about it.

Could also be fuel related i.e. filter and/or weak/bad pump.

I just bought a 1994 cadillac seville sls with the 4.6 litre motor. the seller said the engine was recently rebuilt. the check engine oil continuosly displays on the dash. i have added oil and it seems...

Have you tried putting more oil in, Should have it above the add line. If all else fails have a oil change on it.Have them filled it like they do after and oil change, and then keep and eye on dip stick, If looses oil after that, you have a leak somewhere. Let me know if this advice helps you, Thanks Mike from fixya

How do you add motor oil to a 1990 isuzu trooper i've lost the manual so i dont know where the dipstick is.

First I have to know if it is a 6cyl or 4 cyl? If it is 6 cylinder then the dipstick is on the right side looking at the engine from the front. (figure 0-13). In(figure 0-10) in this link:
The oil fill is on the left side of the engine, and may either be a screw in or a plug type (though all the "official" parts depts. swear it is a screw in.
If it is a 4 cylinder, then I suggest you visit the myisuzuparts site to find the right places. I am sure you can purchase a new owner's manual there too.

I know this sounds silly, but I am new to doing stuff for my car on my own and I can't figure out how to check my oil :/

i passed this one by,but i stopped and and thought ok lets have more people do there own maintenance.Onthe side of the engine you will find a bright couloured ie mybe orange etc stick it willgo into the engine lower down cant say what side but you will see it with engine sitting for 5 mins take a tisssue and remove the stick and clean with tissue, replace and push down until the stick hits bottom then pull out and take a good look, the perfect thing would be halveway between the two marks you will see.keep up the good work and if you want more information contact me.adrian,,,

Car seem to be burning oil, i add oil every week

If you are adding oil every week; then the vehicle is definitely either leaking oil or burning oil. Providing that it is in fact burning oil and not leaking it; you will need to find out what the faulty component is in the engine so that you know how to go about proceeding with repairs. Performing a compression test and a cylinder leakage test should help you to verify the faulty engine component.
