What is the plug gap in a 400 cubic inch engine?

.035 should work.
If you go to auto store to buy spark plugs, they will usually write the gap on the plug box.

If you have to look-up spark plugs in a little book in the automotive section of some store, hopefully the info will include the gap.
The gap I posted came out of an old Motors manual for your model year.

Tightening sequence

45 ft/lbs in 3 steps: 20, 30, 45. Use some kind of moly lube - or at least engine oil - on the threads and under the bolt head.

Aftermarket studs/nuts like ARP will be slightly higher. Package will give instructions.

1967 pontiac gto wont go into reverse and constanly needs transmission fluid

Vacuum modulator has an internal leak. Tranny fluid is being sucked up the vacuum hose and into the engine. Kinda surprised you didn't mention shifting problems tho. A bad modulator usually causes the engine to wind out more before shifting to the next gear. Or you have an additional problem besides the modulator.

What are the engine codes and what do they stand for? ie: Y= 400 C.I. engine,325 h.p.

What kind of Pontiac engine you have? Is it pre-80's? Pontiac engines have a 2 letter stamp on the front top passenger corner of the engine block. The year is usually next to the distributer hole, and the actual casting number is located on the top rear of block. Some sites offer casting number searches. A good one is They deal with everything from block and cylinder head numbers. If the engine is 1970 or newer, engine size is casted behind the dipstick passenger side of block and also on the front driverside of block too. There are many different variations of codes to list. A example it the engine is made in 1967, casting number is 9786133, code on the right front of block says YE, then it's a 1967 400, that originally had a automatic transmission connected to it, had 10.5 to 1 compression, #066 camshaft, 143 or 061 cylinder heads, 4bbl carb, and 325 horsepower.

1967 PONTIAC 400 ENGINE-What is the right number head for that year engine, also can I put a 1975 crank in a 67 engine block without machine work. THANKS FRANK

Pretty skimpy info there toolbox. Which engine do you have?
In 1967 Pontiac made 326, 400, and 421 engines. They all have the same main bearing size, 3.00 inches, rod size, 2.250 inches and the same stroke, 3.750 inches.
In 75, they only made the 400 and 455. The 75 400 uses the same crank but the 455 uses the same rod size but a larger 3.250 main, and 4.210 stroke.
So any year 400 crank will fit any other year 400, 389, or 350.
Google Kauffman Racing, Wallace Racing or Pontiac Dude.
