'97 Mitsubishi Galant starts when jumped, runs fine to destination, won't start again unless jumped. Ideas?

  • susanne_moor Jul 25, 2009

Tested battery; all good, tested the starter at Advance auto - starter was good, needed to replace solenoid. That's done; still can't start it on its own. Did get a battery with higher cranking amps, didn't help, although it is an older battery.

You have a bad battery or bad connections to your battery. Try to charge the battery first. If the problem still occurs then replace the battery. It should be ok after this. good luck.

Check the battery, Because the battery requires a lot of power to drive the starting motor, might be the batter is not good enough to drive the self motor.

Galant wont start

Interesting, this sounds just like no output from the alternator. If the alternator is good then it has to be the cabling or connections to the battery. If you have a multimeter take a reading on the cabling then read what is actually reaching the battery posts.

1999 MITSUBISHI GALANT,ONLY STARTS WHEN YOU JUMP THE BATTERY, THEN RUNS FINE, BUT WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF IT WILL NOT START AGAN, LIKE THE BATTERY IS DEAD, BUT WILL START IF YOU JUMP THE BATTERY AGAN

Hello,
Most likely, your problem is your altenator and/or your battery. If possible take your car to the closest auto parts store and they should be able to test it for free.
ie: Autozone, Advance Auto, or Pep boys..

My mitsubishi galant suddenly won't start

1. Check n clean battery cables with a battery brush. Look at both ends, if able.
2. Check battery acid level. Add if needed, get a jump.
3. All OK? Then get a battery load-test done free at a parts store.

18 degrees in September? Isn't that Celsius?

My 2003 galant runs but when i shut it off i need a jump i had a service engine light on and it said i needed a camshaft sensor replaced now nomore light but car still wont start without jumps

Needing a jump can mean several things.
The cables could be dirty or not tight again, the battery may be loosing power if the car sits, and so on.
Someone would need to check the battery with a meter when it won't crank and find out if the battery is fully charged, and if the starter is getting power.

My 2003 Mitsubishi Galant (V6) started to hesitate and die. It starts back up fine and will die again when I let off the gas or stop. It will run fine for a couple of months (and a few tanks of gas) and...

It is your idle air control (IAC) motor. Its located on the bottom of the throttlebody. All you need to do to change it out is remove the air intake hose from the throttlebody, unplug the connector and remove 3 screws. But the part isn't cheap. I would suggest finding on online because at a local parts store it will be around $250

Timing settings on 2001 mitsubishi galant

Uh-oh, the belt probably jumped. If that's the case, most of them are interference engines, which means alot of bent valves. The head will need to be repaired or replaced as well as the belt & if you do it yourself, don't even be off one tooth with the timing marks or it'll bend them again.
