There's a plug on the side of the trans you need to take out that is the proper level. That's where you put the oil in and when it won't take any more and runs out same hole, put the plug back in and done.

Gearbox oil capacity of mx5 mk1 1800cc 5 speed

4.2 Pints for a 1997 Mazda Miata, but that's for the U.S. MX6, I believe.

For 2004 BMW 745i, (E65 & E66 type), the oil capacity of automatic Gearbox Transmision, (GA6 HP26Z type), is 9.0 litres.
Oil type: Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Shell M1375.4

About 4.5litres and that includes oil filter If filled from totaly empty
