Hi and welcome to FixYa,
To my knowledge, you assumption is correct on most designs. That wire should go to the ignition switch and will be hot when key is in START. However, same wire often would be connected first to a relay that is interlocked with some conditions/status other then key to START. They would be:

OOPS dealer only ,Try opening and closing door lock three times drivers side 10 sec interval between clicks then try starting if no go then dealer only

hi there the problem sounds like timing have u put the leads on the injectors the right order or the leads on the plugs the rong order
