Fuel system 37 failure, what does this mean and how do you fix it?

just block off the the EGR valve with a home made gasket from a coca cola can ,its not important and will not stop the car from running ,check the fuel pressure as this i think could be the problem it should read 55lbs ,on the fuel rail is tyre valve looking thing ,undo the cap and put a pressure gaug on here ,one of them stick type tyre pressure gauges will do the job as your in the middle of nowhere ,just check the fuel line pressure and iam sure you wll find its low and new pump could be the order of the day

Running hot ,take the top off resivoir and it bubbles but car runs good,put the top back on runs hot ,poor

try this, go to any auto parts store and buy a new pressure cap for your car. it is probably a bad cap. i put a new cap on my malibu, and it runs much cooler. try it! have a good day !! but let car run for a while with old cap off, to see if bubbles disappear.

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus, and an engine sign showed up. However, I pulled out the code which is P0442. what is the problem, how much would that cost me and when do I need to fix it, can I wait for the...

P0442 code relating to the EVAP (Evaporative Emission System).a small emissions leak. also check the gas cap .Try cleaning the seals first and then try putting a little vaseline on the seals before getting a new gas cap. -------------
Code P0442-Evaporative emission control system. Canister Purge system failed the monitor test indicating a large leak (over 0.040”). Enabling conditions: Engine running after a 6 to 8 hour engine off period called a cold soak. The test runs when engine load is between 15 to 45% and inlet air temperature between 40 and 130°F. Blocking Action: This code can block the following monitors: Fuel Control, O2 monitor, Catalyst Monitor, misfire monitor. Testing: Check the purge hoses for leaks, leaking vapor management valve or loose gas cap.

This simply indicates that there was no flow from the evap system when the purge valve was energized. This could be cause of a few different reasons. First, check for leaks by visually looking at all evap lines for cranks rips or any tears. Basically, anywhere that fuel vapors can escape.
----------- Here is the test that will smoke the system for leaks with a smoke machine.

Evaporative Emission System Leak Test


CAUTION: The evaporative emission system must not be pressurized to more than 3.48 kPa (14 inches H2O)or damage to the evaporative emission system may occur.
  1. Connect the Evaporative Emission System Leak Tester to the evaporative emission test port.
  2. Close the canister vent solenoid.
  3. Pressurize the evaporative emission system to 3.48 kPa (14 inches H2O) .
  4. Monitor the system for two minutes . The system fails the leak test if the pressure falls below 2.0 kPa (8 inches H2O) .
  5. Repair any leaks as necessary.
  6. Repeat the leak test until the system remains above 2.0 kPa (8 inches H2O) after the two-minute test period.
---------- get it repaired ASAP because if you drive the car in same condition the emisson system can get damaged.and code will be p0445 ,now the code is p0442 its for leak in the emisson system. ---------------- This will help. Gas tank keeps blowing a hole in exact same spot over exhaust

Hoping the exhaust system is original equipment and undamaged, After replacing the tank a3rd time, I would ABSOLUTELY assess the condition of all exhaust hangers, and re-align exhaust pipes AWAY from that gas tank. The vehicle will best be repaired on a lift, along with some heavy bars. Maybe the closeness of the exhaust was trying to bring your unleaded to a boil. Repair this ASAP

If it goes from the power steering reservoir down directly to the rack, it's a low pressure hose. If it goes from the pump to the rack, it's the high pressure hose. The high pressure hose is usually 2-3 times the price of the low pressure one. Not sure what the pricing will be, but they can tell you at the auto parts store (probably significantly cheaper than buying directly from Nissan).
