SOURCE: odometer doesnt work
Your speedometer works, your odometer quit.
Chances are, your drive gear has given up. The popular story is that you
hit the trip meter reset while the car was in motion. While it is entirely
possible that that particular event was the event that caused the actual
failure, the root cause lies at the VDO factory. The tiny, little, 15 tooth
planetary gear that drives the odometer and trip meter from the speedo
sensor has turned into a soft jello like rubber over the years due to excessive
heat and a corrosive oil lubricant that has turned that essential gear
into mush. The separation of a couple teeth from that gear has been inevitable. Now, if you have an electrical(led) displayed odometer, this could be a blown fuse or the sending unit is damaged. Either way, you will have to remove the cluster from the dash to access this problem spot.
please rate and god bless..

I had all my analog instrument panel gauges stop working after they did the state emissions test. I found the proper fuse in the fuse block located under the hood. Simply unplugged the fuse, noticed it was still good, and plugged the same fuse (10A) back in and all the gauges started working again. Guess it needed a reset atfer they plugged in for the emissions.

Yes the dealer is right. there are several places that rebuild these for less than a new one. The dealer should be able to send it out or get a rebuilt cluster. If the dealer doenst want to help you, find a good repair shop, they usually have a place they get clusters from.

there are 2 large terminal plugs with the wiring for all the instruments that are plugged into the back of that panel. make sure they are snug and in place. You reach in and under but it may easier to "simply" remove the cluster. 4 screws hold it in place accessible form underneath and with a long phillips screwdriver and lighting.
