I have a 2004 F130 4X4 with 5.4L. Yesterday the oil pressure gague bottom out. Check the oil level, a little low, put 2 qt in. The gague bouced up twice then it pinned to bottom. Trun off when pulling into...

I doubt its a bad oil pump, have it diagnosed at a shop that does a lot of Ford repairs or the dealer. If it needs a pump, it needs more than a pump. 2 quarts is very low, dangerous low.

How much oil do i put in my truck right after i do an oil change auto zone said 3 buckets of oil . but isnt that too much for an ford f250 94-95

The most these trucks take is six and a half U.S. quarts of oil.The safest way to know for sure is to drain all the oil out, remove and install a new oil filter, then install five quarts of your preferred oil.Start the vehicle up and let it run for thirty seconds, then turn it off.Pull the dipstick out and check the level with the engine not running, then top off the oil as necessary.Run it for five minutes to verify that there are no oil leaks, Then Happy Motoring!!! Hope I could help!!!

Will putting too much oil in the car cause it to shut off

1. When the oil level is low it does not start.

2. When oil level is too much it starts but shuts off.

Cheers and be careful.

My car will turn over but then kills right away.low oil pressure

Well when your computer sees that the oil pressure is too low it will shut the fuel pump down as a safety precaution. What could be causing the low oil pressure could be a few things. You could just be low on oil (5 qts is standard on most vehicles), your piston rings could be going bad causing you to lose compression, your head/valve cover gaskets could be breaking down which could cause you to lose compression, and your valves could be covered in carbon build up and not seating completely.  Try this; put a quart of oil in and try running some 44k power enhancer through your engine. If you are still getting the low pressure light it could be a mechanical problem such as your rings, gaskets, Etc.
The high idle could be a number of things. Your Throttle cable could be adjusted a little short, your Engine Coolant Temp sensor could be constantly reading that your engine is cold which would then dump more fuel into your cylinders. Your O2 sensor could be going out therefore constantly reading that there is too much oxygen in your exhaust and telling your computer to dump more fuel into the engine. Its a long shot but you may also have a timing problem.... Good luck and if there is naything else I can help with just let me know...

Hi michelle2551,providing the oil dipstick is the right one for your car then if it reads 1/2 qrt low it should be topped up typically when an oil change is performed and the car is started it will fill the oil filter therefore appearing a little low, it may read full initially but once it is run and shutoff it reads low follow the manufacturers oil level indicator and top it up hope this helps good luck
