Rear tailgate will not unlock

You will need to detrim the tailgate and manually access the latch mechanism and release the tailgate and find out the cause of the fault.

L want to completely remove the tailgate of a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup.

Really bad idea. This will cost you lower fuel mileage, danger of cargo loss. Mythbusters have run tests proving that the aero effects with the tailgate up form a cushion of air in the bed which reduces drag. None of my business I know.

How do i replace the tailgate handle on 2008 chevy avalanche

There are two screws on the bed side. Remove and old handle will come out of other side. Must un-hook cables that run to the latches on each side of tailgate.

My 2008 pathfinder tailgate wont open after being hit by trailer

I had a similar problem with my pickup. It had a plate on the inside held on by phillips screws. After removing this plate I was able to slide the rods that held the gate shut and open the tailgate. My latch was broken and was then able to remove the latch and install a new one. It was not hard to do and I was able to remove the two nuts that held the latch on and take it to the dealer, purchase a new one, and fixed it myself. Hope this works for you.

WILL NOT LATCH

Usually the problem is that the latches have frozen in place. Spray both ends of the door and then be sure the latches are in the out position. Also check the springs that they are working properly. There is a small door on most models on the inside of the door [ tailgate] that is held on by screws. If your has this remove the plate and spray with a lubricant. Your best lube is white lithium grease.

The tailgate latch on our 2006 Chevy truck is in the open positio

there are little metal rods that connect to the handle of the tailgate, just like the rods that connect your door handles to the door hinges and lock mechanism. just pop off the plastic cover over the tailgate handle and check and see if the rods are still connected to the handle.

Tailgate on teh 2001 Chevy Siverado will not open,

Remove the molding surrounding the latch (gently) with a screwdriver by prying away from the tailgate. Remove the bolts from the tailgate on the backside of the latch assembly. lightly pull the lever assembly forward, but do not try to pull it out. The rod that came loose will be in the general area of the lever assembly. Most likely the retaining clip to the rod came off.
