On a case 580k 4x4 backhoe is 4th gear set up different then 1st 2nd 3rd tractor won't move in lower gears made no noises or grinding .

Hi Bill:
I'd check with my local Case dealer. We have several pieces of Case equipment with hydostatic drives.
If I remember correctly, high gear on a standard transmission is a 1:1 ratio in that the power is on a straight through shaft.
My suspicion would be that a shifter link ay have become dis-connected.
Here's a link that may assist.

My backhoe was running the wheels were up on the stabilizers put it in gear .it snuffed the motor and now it wont roll over and wont move by trying the ring gear .could the torque converter look it up

Transmissions will be over full when not running. And the torque converter won't lock up the engine In neutral. Not sure about backhoes, but if you have a TCC switch. It will only kill the engine in gear. wheels on the ground.

I have a 1996 ford f250. recently changed the fuel pump. it kills then its hard to start, when it does start it kills as soon as I put it into gear.

-if you believe that the pump might not work correctly. You need to check fuse pressure. If it's within its specification than there is other than the pump. It could be bad plug wire, spark plugs are too old.
bad injector.

Good luck

I have a case 580 backhoe and when you push the clutch down and try to put it in forward or reverse it grinds and wont go in gear

Just a guess from an old shadetree mechanic: pedal pressure is wrong-too weak, or the clutch pressure plate bolted to the flywheel is bad. They will wear on the fingers and the plate's springs can wear. There should be a Case repair facility at a dealership, anywhere close? A mechanic familiar with your case 580, they often don't mind talking a bit over the phone about a mechanical problem. I meant by pedal pressure-I don't know if the rig is hydraulic clutch or mechanical linkage or cable operated, but check if the clutch pedal can be adjusted. On a hydraulic clutch with a clutch master cylinder and an associated slave cylinder, there is no adjustment. You just have to keep the reservoir full of dot-3, or dot-4 brake fluid. So that's my guess, something wrong with the pedal, or worse, something wrong with the pressure plate. You definitely need a second opinion. Good luck.

1999 Lincoln Continental...Starts and runs good put it in reverse or drive and it kills the engine. Starts back up fine but same results

Possible bad switch on the transmission or
some type of adjustment to linkage or cable
to compensate for a worn switch

Car starts fine. stopped at redlight, went to take off and car would not move. it's a 5 spd 91 accord. put car in neutral let go of clutch and it kills.HELP! it's like i had my foot on the brake or...

One immediate possibility occurs to me, if letting out the clutch in Neutral kills the engine - transmission failure. Locked brakes would not cause the engine to die in neutral. Your trans is siezed - so if you connect it to the engine (by releasing the clutch) it dies. Your front wheels cannot roll for the same reason.
