Camshaft sensor cadillac srx

2010 Cadillac SRX 3.0 L V6 - OBD2 shows Camshaft Positions Correlation - Bank 1 - Sensor B. There are four sensors which one is this and any advise on replacing this? There is no stalling, no engine hesitation, starts easy, no oil problems, no gas cap problems. Resetting does not make the problem go away.

Yes, I want to change the sensor. Which one is it and advise on replacing it. Thanks

  • Jeff Armer May 10, 2017

Bank 1 is the side of the engine that # 1 spark plug is on . What code was DTC P0017: This for the exhaust cam sensor . They are on the front timing chain cover . an the one you want is the closest to the exhaust manifold . Yellow with a black stripe wire and a gray wire .

  • Jeff Armer May 10, 2017

Should be a video on youtube showing how to replace it .

I was not able to locate any youtube showing replacement for this particular sensor -- could use a bit of help here. The sensor location according to your description is the closest of the FOUR sensors to the firewall with three wires yellow (not sure of the stripe), gray and black and lowest on the engine black -- is that correct? Is cylinder number ONE on the passenger side closest to the fire wall which is Bank number ONE -- this just helps to verify that I am looking at the correct sensor? The reasoning for replacing the sensor as the first line is that the P0017 is the only code, there has been no stalling, no engine hesitation, starts easy, oil is fine, P0017 reappears after resetting the code and the cost is very reasonable for a replacement sensor. If this does resolve the problem, there are a number of other reasons which you have also suggested including replacing the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Thanks for your help -- really appreciated.

DTC P0016: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Intake Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1
DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1

• An actuator that is in the full advance or retard position can cause this DTC to set.
• The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).
• Observing the desired and actual camshaft angle parameters, with a scan tool before a DTC sets, may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

Now do you want to change a sensor an have it not fix the problem .

2007 Cadillac 3.6L srx, check engi, code p00017 crank sensor - replaced, still running rough and giving me a misfire on 1,3&5. Changed plugs, still 1,3&5 misfire - 155000 miles, could it need new coil

P0017 timing chain Chevy Colorado P0017 Case Study Part 1
155,000 miles This is not a DTC for the crank sensor . This is for variable valve timing .
DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1
The camshaft position (CMP) actuator system enables the engine control module (ECM) to change the timing of the camshafts while the engine is operating. The CMP actuator solenoid signal from the ECM is pulse width modulated (PWM). The ECM controls the CMP actuator solenoid duty cycle by controlling the amount of solenoid ON time. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the advance or the retard of each camshaft. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the oil flow that applies the pressure to advance or retard the camshafts.
Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the CMP actuator solenoid. The ECM controls the solenoid by grounding the control circuit with a solid state device called a driver. The ECM compares the camshaft position or the camshaft angle, to the position of the crankshaft.

Your a little out of your league on this ! Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop !

• Inspect the engine for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed camshaft, camshaft actuator, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, or timing chain can cause this DTC to set.

How to change a csmshsft sensor on a 2008 cadillac srx

Before you replace a part you may or may not need . Why ? What code ? Does the vehicle run ? There has been a lot of confusion on these vehicles with variable valve timing , mixing up cam sensors with camshaft actuators
DTC P0008: Engine Position System Performance Bank 1

DTC P0009: Engine Position System Performance Bank 2
The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. ?€¢
Observe the scan tool CMP Desired, Actual, and Angle Variance parameters before a DTC sets. This may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

Where is the knock sensor located on a 2004 Cadillac srx v6 engine 3.6L

No sir, on the ly7 HFV6 3.6l in the 04-09 srx and cts the knock sensors are located on the sides of the engine block. Bank 1 and two are visible fringe wheel well. Not to hard to get to with a 3/8 drive 13mm socket, universal joint, and short extension. I would also check the connector with a multi meter while doing this job to ensure you have a good connection and harness is not damaged. Best of luck!

I have a p0008 code & I'm worried

P0008 CADILLAC - Engine Positions System Performance Bank 1
The ECM detects that both camshafts on either bank of the engine are mis-aligned with the crankshaft for more than 4 seconds or a cumulative of 50 seconds.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the position of both camshafts and the crankshaft. The ECM performs a test for misalignment between both camshafts on one bank of the engine and the crankshaft. During the test the ECM learns the position of the camshafts and the crankshaft. While the engine is idling, the ECM compares the position of both the camshafts and the crankshaft with the learned value. The ECM will set the P0008 code if both learned values for one bank of the engine are exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes
- Engine mechanical problems
- Incorrect timing chain
- Stretched timing chain
- Failed camshaft actuator or actuator solenoid

Tech notes
There is a factory service bulletin for the following Cadillac models:

2004-2008 Cadillac CTS SRX
2005-2008 Cadillac STS

The service bulletin suggest replacing the primary drive and both secondary drive timing chains. Contact your Cadillac dealer for more information. The repair could still be cover under factory warranty.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).

Take it to Autozone or Advanced auto and get an engine diagnostic and ask them to printout the results. Most times it's a sensor.
