I have a 2001 ford ranger. I am having trouble filling the gas tank. Vapors won't release and it takes a very long time to fill the tank. Is there a vent valve on the tank?

DEAR Frank,

ABSOLUTELY NOT (and with EXTREMELY good cause).

Your tank is specifically designed
to NOT LET VAPORS escape... If things are working
properly you ought to be hearing a SUCKING SOUND
when you pull off the gas cap...

Here in California... EPA folks go completely homicidal
at the notion of gas fumes (this being the STATE where we have BAY FRONT retirement centers for our GAZILLION deathrow inmates... (folks all queued-up for their last meal)...!!

((I'd spell *****-row correctly... but I don't believe it would get past our PC squads)).

Not only are they (vapors) harmful to the environment...
they are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

Beg, borrow or BUY the book and read up-on
VAPOR RECOVERY system... (TOTALLY).

Check your charcoal canister is not saturated... and
CONSIDER going to better GAS STATIONS.

Stop by your local FIRE house or US Coast Guard
duty station... And find out first hand how easy it is to strike up a conversation on the EQUIVALENT STICKS of DYNAMITE...
for a single ounce of PROPERLY VAPORIZED gas fumes.

It's all incredibly fast and fatal...
Get yourself completely QUALIFIED before you
create a serious disaster!!

Better still... hire a qualified (CERTIFIED) professional.

2002 expedition gas smell

When filling up do you top off the take or stop when the pump shuts off ? Over filling to the point the vapor canister is full of fuel ? Gas tank filler tube is rusted an leaking , Hose for evaporative emissions leaking ? Look under the vehicle at the fuel for a crack vapor canister etc... Your vehicle is a 2002 an these parts don't last for ever . Any warning light's lit on the instrument cluster ? Check engine light etc.... Do you know what a evaporative emissions system is ? It stores fuel vapors instead of venting to the atmosphere .

2006 chev colorado Oxygen sensor burns out

Interesting.
Are you getting a trouble code for the sensor ?
Under normal conditions the tip inside the exhaust will look burned from the high heat of the exhaust gas, but nothing should be melting.
A fuel injection system can not vapor lock, but a leaking injector can cause the exhaust to be too rich. Same thing if the air filter is clogged up.

is the gas cap venting? the engine may not be getting enough fuel on the hot days if it is "vapor locking".

Need to set up an evap canister in a 85 camero 350 4 barrel auto

Is this stock which would actually be a a 305 Camaro with a 4 barrel feed back Quadrajet?
Basically,
Vapor line from the tank to a Tank Pressure Control Valve (small round inline valve) then to the "Tank" port on the Evap canister (they are usually marked)

The other canister port marked "Purge" goes into a Vapor Contol Valve. That Valve has three more ports. One to the carb bowl vent, manifold vacuum and to a Thermal Vacuum Switch.
The last port of the Thermal Vacuum Switch connects to port vacuum from the carburator.

I have a 2005 Buick Rendezvous. The engine light came on last week. The book said it had to do with the emmissions. At the garage the computer said it was a feul vapour code. They reset the code and it...

Hi, Sounds like you are not releasing fuel vapor through the tank vent tube (or valve if so equipped) There is a small hose running along with the large filler hose from the filler entry (where you put gas in) to the tank. This is to release vapor as you fuel and as the fuel in tank heats up (expands). If you cannot release the vapor pressure, you cant fill the tank. (Physics of air/liquid replacement and pressure equalization) You can try disconnecting this tube and or try to find obstructions. Some have a valve in the tube allowing pressure to escape, but none to enter. (one-way valve) if it is malfunctioning (likely) it will give a back pressure of vapor error and also not equalize pressure in the tank when re fueling. Shop is gonna charge you a couple big bucks to drop tank and investigate. I would try to do some investigation myself to see if you can find either a vapor cannister that the vapor tube goes into, or a check/purge valve on the cannister or tank you can replace cheaply.......MIke

2003 ford freestar what does trouble code po442 mean and what can cause it?

Hello syatzus.
This is the most common code we see in my repair shop.
The description of this code is "small leak detected-evaporative system".
The reason for it all is emissions. In vehicles produced in the last several years there is a system in them that is capable of storing gasoline vapors (hydrocarbons). When filling your fuel tank vapors are now directed to a vapor storage device called a carbon canister. When driving your car under certain driving conditions these vapors are drawn into the engine to be burned.
So in order to get the vapors into the canister the fuel system must be sealed. So the systems in vehicles will sometimes run a test to verify that the system stays sealed, if it doesn't, your check engine light comes on.
A loose fuel cap can do this, but so can a rusted line, a bad solenoid, cracked carbon canister and so on.
One of the best ways to locate a leak that isn't obvious is to use a smoke generating devise and introduce it into the evap system.
Many good shops will have a smoke machine today. If they don't I am sure they pull their hair out trying to fix this code.
I hope yours is a simple fix.

Hard to start 2004 sonata

Hi have a nice day!
Check EVAP Emission Control System Vent Circuit.

DESCRIPTION The evaporative system prevents hydrocarbon (HC) vapors from the fuel tank escaping into the atmosphere where they would form photochemical smog. Gasoline vapors are collected in the charcoal canister. The Canister Close Valve (CCV) closes off the air inlet to the canister for leak detection of the evaporative emission system. The CCV also prevents fuel vapors from escaping from the canister. When the engine purges HC vapors from canister, the clean air comes into the canister through canister air-filter and CCV. If open error message displayed is "P0447" If shorted error message is "P0448"
