SOURCE: fan belt replacement

Hey there tsukaska,

No problem.

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is near the Alternator toward the center of the engine. It's on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

BATTERY DRAIN ON KIA SPORTAGE 99

i would recommend performing or telling your tech to perform a parasidic drain test. because if your battery is dying after a day of no use it sounds like a control module is telling something to turn on when not suppose to and is draining the battery so you will not be able to start it.
hope this helps

The altenator is bad. Not charging the battery and running the car. Once the battery drains the car will die. You can charge the battery and it will run untill it is drained.

Am having grand cherokee limited edition 2003, 4.0 the problem is the batery keeps draining. I bought new batery but still drains.Always meet the batery dead. Please, help

If you have a loose fan/drive belt. That would cause the problem. Just tighten it up. Corroded conctions at the battery but you should have cleaned those when you bought the new battery. Have you had the Alternator checked? Perhaps loose or corroded connections at the alternator or a bad alternator. You can remove it and bring it in to a parts store. Many of them will run a check on your old one before selling you a new one. You could have left something on that drains the battery. A light somewhere or even a short causing a power drain.

Loosen the adjustment bolt on the alternator, remove old belt, fit new one and stretch it slightly with the adjustment of the alternator until you have 2mm of deflection. Tighten up the bolt and take her for a run to charge the battery properly.

Istallation and removal of alternator.

There are usually two mounting bolts on an alternator. One of them is long and goes through into the engine block. The other one is usually a short bolt the goes into a tensioning bracket that helps you tighten the belt. Disconnect the positive battery cable before you begin work. If you don't do this you could short out the electrical system while working and cause some damage. Loosen the bolts a little and by pushing sideways you can loosen the alternator belt enough to remove it. Inspect it for cracks and replace if necessary. Remove the wire connectors from the back of the alternator. Remove the bolts from the alternator, short one first. Reverse this process to install the new alternator. When the wires are reconnected and the bolts inserted put the fan belt back on and find something to pry on the alternator with to tension the fan belt till it's tight. Tighten the bolts, reattach battery cable and you're done.

Belt that holds alternator in place is really tight like it is bogged down can't find out what is still holding it in place, and why it won't loosen up? this is a 98 honda accord, V6, it had a dead...

Always diagnose first. It is your alternator that is no good. You couldve saved your money on the battery. But its ok. There is an idler pulley which automatically tightens belt i beleive just put a wrench on it and turn it to loosen belt.
the following are the steps to remove the alternator

disconnect the battery. ,Remove the cooling fan next to the alternator. ,Put a wrench on the idler pulley and move it to the rear to lessen the belt tension. Remove belt. , Remove alternator connections , unbolt alternator plus a bolt holding a wire. hope this helps and good luck
oh i forgot to mention to clean all connections and spray electrical corrosion paint on all connections

Check out the the final stage resistor, know weak point that when it fails it leaves the little fan (which I think draws sample air into the themomostat for the ac system) this will drain the battery.

Electric fans runs after car is shut off, drains battery

Having the fan run on for a bit after the engine has stopped is not abnormal in itself, but 20 minutes sounds excessive.

If the fan does eventually shut off, I'd consider changing the thermoswitch (this is a sensor screwed into the radiator somewhere near the bottom, with a pair of wires connected to it - to change it, you'll need to drain the cooling system).

If the fan stays on continuously until the battery is completely flat, see what happens when you unplug the wires from the thermoswitch. If this stops the fan, you need to replace the thermoswitch. If it doesn't, then you need to examine the wiring associated with the switch and the fan, looking for damaged insulation.
