Question about Volvo Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2006 volvo xc90 with a 4.4 v8 awd. The bearings in the compressor are bad and I was wondering if it possible to bypass the ac without causing any other issues other than not having ac.

On older SAABs we were able to use a shorter serpentine belt to bypass the AC compressor back in the day. Not sure if its possible on an XC90 ; but it IS possible you just wont have AC

There are bypass pulleys available for A/C systems. If it is the compressor bearing the clutch on it should free wheel, just disconnect the wire going into the clutch, if its the clutch it self, use a bypass pulley, Im sure you can find one online .

SOURCE: Volvo S60 AWD 2.5- car pulls sideways when driving on rain or sno

It's probably not that the wheels are moving at a different speed. It sounds like a simple alignment issue to me. Installing a bearing could have thrown it off. You should just have a simple alignment job done.

SOURCE: AC compressor clutch has gone bad

ok well sounds to me like your gonna have to remove the ac comp. itself which will take a little work... the new pully will prolly be a bracket that bolts up were the ac comp is now but it will be free spinning i have not done this specfic one but thats like one i did once you will have to empty the ac system of all refrig which to be done properly you must have a recovery machine {which means shop which means money im sorry} then remove the lines and un bolt comp. when all said and done you will notice better gas milage so thats a plus i hope this was helpfull and once again this is how i did it to my old blazer i used to have so i hope that its the same for you best of luck man

I doubt anyone knows that off the top of their head. You could run a string through the path you want the belt to take and measure how much string it takes. This will give you an approximate length for the belt -- most parts stores could find one close to that size.

SOURCE: bypass ac compressor 2006 dodge ram 3500 5.9 L

Hi:
The easiest method to do this is to go to an auto parts store and buy a belt designed for a truck with no air conditioning. The belt will be the right size, and you just install it as normal, and bypass the compressor

Seized A/C compressor

The cause of this is that the roller bearing that the AC compressor pulley turns on is frozen up, the bearing can be replaced but you will need to buy the pulley assembly to get the bearing and you will need a special puller to remove the pressed on pulley. As far as finding a proper belt size to bypass the compressor that is nearly impossible to do, you may get the measurements right but in most cases the belt size you need will not be available, When the factory builds a car or truck with "AC Delete" they install a bypass pulley and the same belt is used for both with and without AC. The cost to replace the bearing is low, and that would be the by far the easiest thing to do here. You can buy the AC tool you need online, just google the year and make.

Need to replace serpentine belt without ac on a 2007 chev impala ac compressor bad need to bypass. can this be done

As far as I know there is no idler by-pass pulley for that car available yet..So,no.
However the compressor may be ok. If the A.C. is off the compressor doesn't spin, the only
moving part is the pulley on the end, and it's bearing. I suspect it is that outer bearing that is bad,
not the whole compressor.
A good shop can pull that bearing and install a new one (A GOOD shop could do it
in the car and not even loose the freon!)
Hope this sheds some light.

I lost my AM frequency. FM is working. What can be wrong?

Do you have an FM modulator installed? If so the added impedence is likely the cause of your AM problem. If not its probably the AFM (Signal Amplifier) is on its last legs. Check write-up here: Installing an FM Modulator in a 2005/2006 Volvo V50 (PDF format).

Try it and tell us news.

Ac compressor clutch is making a noise is the clutch is replaceable without replacing compressor

I had the same issue with my 2006. I thought the compressor clutch bearings were faulty. After further research, the rattling noise was actually coming from the serpentine belt tensioner. Easy repair!
Hope this helps.

it' not just loose, it does have a bad bearing. you would have to get a clutch kit which is made up of a bearing. magnet and a clutch hub, on a general motors product it cost almost as much as a new aftermarket compressor assemble
good luck chris

Wheel bearing is the most likely cause. Prob a 1.5-2 hour labor rate job in the shop.
