Hi Fred,
There could be a number of reasons for this.

As I do not have much detail and do not know your knowledge of cars, I will explain the basic principle at work here and hopefully that might give you a clue as to what the problem might be:

In all modern cars the key fob (plastic part of the key) has a coded electronic chip moulded inside. There is a sensor just under the steering column cover, usually right next to the ignition switch. This sensor activates whenever a key is turned in the ignition switch and the sensor reads code stored in the chip in the key fob.

When all is good, the engine will start as expected as the keys code will have been programmed into the cars engine management control system and the key is recognised as a matching/authorised key. No match, the engine won't start - a very good safety feature.

Some reasons why this may give the fault you are experiencing:
  • You bought a replacement key from the Dodge Dealer, but the new key has either not been programmed into the cars engine management system or the programming was not successful
  • You bought a non-chipped key from a non-dealer and had it cut from the original, but were not aware of the need for a chipped key and the need to have the new key programmed into the management system. A non-chipped key will not work, ever unless the management system is compromised
  • There may be a fault with the sensor
  • Very unusual, but the chip in the key may have been damaged
Do you have an original spare key to try?

Hope this sheds some light on your problem :)

Can I put a non chip ignition in a 2000 f150 if I can't what do I need to do after I put chip key ignition in

You can't use a non chip key. You need to get it to a dealer for programming(some locksmiths can do it). Just a note, you need 2 keys for programming on Fords. Thing is you need to have the problem diagnosed. If you just lost the key. Take it to Ford. They can cut new keys for your truck and program them. Have the codes read. Receivers don't have to be reprogrammed. You could have a bad wire or plug. All the other computers have to be programmed.

I have a 1996 escort diesel turbo wagon.key was stolen ,had new 1 made for has an can I get around this problem. Code for radio programed, red light by clock flashing still

You need to get the key chip code loaded into the car immobiliser
If you don't have a genuine key you will need to get one and have it cut and coded to the car
Last key I had to get was £156 total for key chip cutting and coding to car 3 years ago

How can I by pass the pass key code on my 99 pontiac montana

If you try to use a blank key chip in a vehicle that is meant to use a key with a chip installed, the chances are excellent that your vehicle will not start. The computer chip in the key mates with a piece of program code in your car's computer system. When the two halves are there, your Pontiac will start easily, however, if you attempt to bypass the coded key, your van won't start. For most drivers, this is not an issue, unless an ignition key is lost. If you lose the key you will have to replace it with a matching one which will prove expensive. It can cost up to $85 or more to replace this type of key in some cars because the key has to be encoded to work with your van. Unless you know someone with a blank spare for the same vehicle who will give the key to you, as well as someone who can program the key, then you will have to pay the freight on a new key and encoding. If you would like further information on this and other automotive issues, please take a look at <a_href=""></a>.

We have a 2001 hyundai accent. There are 2 chipped keys that have been programmed by the dealer that we can use to drive the vehicle. We also have a 3rd key that we purchased as a spare but it only unlocks...

Only a dealer can make and program a chipped key.To program it yourself requires a machine which probably costs at least $2,000-$3,000 and access to the codes which would not be available to the public/consumers for any reason.Greg

Does the sebring 2001 have a chip in the key?

the ignition key contains a transmitter that is read by the ignition key ring antenna, the antenna sends registration code signals to the immobilizer ECU. if the registration code in the key does not match or one is not sent to the imobilizer than the pcm will not allow vehicle operation.

all keys must be programmed with a scanner
