Your best bet for this vehicle, is to purchase a Chilton manual. This car is very complicated and the manual has a good trouble shooting guide.

It's a 97. Have it scanned for codes. If you don't have a cam or crank code. replace the timing components. All of them. Cam/crank syn is a bad belt/chain or slack pullies/tensioners.

Need to find out what color the vss wire is under hood

you don't have a vehicle speed sensor (VSS). You have a wheel speed sensor that tells the PCM vehcile speed in place of the VSS. What are you tring to do?

The electronic engine controls consist of the following:
  • powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650)
  • throttle position sensor
  • idle air control valve
  • camshaft position sensor
  • crankshaft position sensor
  • mass air flow sensor
  • intake air temperature sensor
  • heated oxygen sensor—front
  • heated oxygen sensor—rear
  • knock sensor
  • cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor
  • power steering pressure (PSP) switch
  • Wheel speed sensor
The powertrain control module needs the following inputs to calibrate the engine properly:
  • camshaft position
  • engine rpm
  • engine coolant temperature
  • amount of engine detonat
