Hw to change heating core in a 2006 pontiac torrent

This is a pro job only states average mechanic rates it a 8 out of 10 difficulty. No videos for that model however states the instrument panel must be removed for access. So unless its actually leaking inside the car I would be looking for other possible problems. Heater core replacement average shop cost is $500-$700 plus about $70 for the part.

Do i have to take dash apart to replace heater core ??

Most vehicles usually allow access on the passenger side. The first thing I usually do is look under the hood to determine the location of the heater hoses. That will tell you where the heater core is located when you start working under the dash. All vehicles seem to be a little different. Some have fairly easy access and some can be quite challenging. If the vehicle has a console, then that can definitely complicate things. Some vehicles have what I call a heater box. If it has one of these, then that's probably where the heater core is located. When installing the new core, handle the inlet/outlet tubes with care. They are fragile and can be easily damaged. I hope this information helps you out and thank you for using

Where is the heater core in my 2001 tracker and best way to change it

this job calls for 7 plus hours. That tells me the whole dash needs to come out to access the box its in.

Youu didn't provide a lot of information about your problem. Jeep G Cherokee s are experiencing a lot of heating problems but the root cause is not formely related to the heater core. However, assuming that the diagnostic has been confirmed and that the job has to be done it has to be considered as a major job. The center console, the steering, the complete dash have to be removed just to access the casing where the heater core, the A/C evaporator, the fan and different doors (blending and recirculate) components are located. Let's say 9 to 12 labour time by a technician, plus parts.

So my advise is make sur your problem is really the heater core. By instance, if you have no heating it could be related to right or left or both of your blending doors being defective.

Yes, there is not an access hole that allows any other method. Start by disconnecting heater hoses, then remove dashboard ***'y. Not too bad on Jeeps. Then you may or may not have to remove the whole HVAC box depending on where the lid for the heater core cavity sits. Usually this whole box must come out to get heater tubes thru the firewall. Then you can take the cover plate off, unbolt the tiny screws that hold down the arms, and remove the offending core. Good luck, takes me a day or less, and I've done it for years. Worth the 400-600 plus that shops charge for this if you are not into meticulous work, tiny screws, and lots of crawling around inside a Jeep. Don't worry, you're not alone in this. Only a handful of today's cars can be re-cored without removing the dash, or at least setting it back on the seat (on a blanket) to gain access to the HVAC box. The following is a general removal procedure of A/C evaporator core. The evaporator is removed differently from different vehicles.
For example, a 1994 Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable instructs you to, "Using a hot knife, cut the top of the air conditioning evaporator housing between the raised outline."

Use a hacksaw or a hot knife to cut the case. Reprinted with the permission of Ford Motor Company.
But a 1993 Ford Probe manual says to simply remove the blower motor and assembly screws before separating the case halves and removing the evaporator.

The following procedure assumes that access to the evaporator has been determined.
  • Recover the refrigerant.
  • Drain the radiator if the heater hose(s) has to be removed to gain access.
  • Remove the heater hose(s), if necessary.
  • Remove any wiring harness, heat shields, brackets, covers, and braces that may restrict access to the evaporator core.
  • Remove the liquid line at the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) or fixed orifice tube (FOT).
  • Remove the suction line at the evaporator or accumulator outlet.
  • Gain access to the evaporator core as outlined in the service manual.
  • Lift the evaporator from the vehicle.
  • Drain the oil from the evaporator into a calibrated cup.
  • For replacement, reverse the preceding procedure. First, replace the oil with the same amount and type you previously drained.

Hello. My name is Chuck and I owned a radiator and air conditioning repair shop for 20 years. The answer to your question is the whole dash board assembly. You need to remove everything to gain access to the evap core. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news .At my shop everybody wanted their a/c fixed but nobody wanted to pay the price and I can't blame them. I charged 800 to 900 bucks complete for this job and the chrysler dealer charged about 1200 plus for the same work. Good luck.
