SOURCE: clunking noise from rear

do you have universal joints going into your rear end or do you have cv joints going into the rear end? this is important to know. With out actually being there to check it out, I would say you need to check the yoke, the universal or cv joint as it may be and if its not any one of those then its most likely going to be in the actual rear end. for this unless you have done this before or have some one to guide you you will need to take it in and have it serviced. The spider geers can be a lilte tricky, but is not what I would call a difficult job. If you send me more information I can give you more answers.

SOURCE: My renault clio makes a clunking noise when I put it in reverse

When you put your car in gear. The engine will move slightly.
Check your exhaust is not banging on the body. Give the tailpipe a good wiggle.

I have a 1992 Ford F350.Just replaced the rear end. It still makes a clunking noise when I put it in reverse. What could it be

the "backlash" felt by reversing the drive shaft direction is normally the clearance in the spider gears in the diff so to get rid off that ( not necessary unless it is excessive) is to pull the diff center out and fit new thrust washers behind the spider gears
next check the diff mount bushes as the diff reaction will move the bolts in the mounts and make the noise

2006 BMW R1200GS - whilst riding no noise but when I close the throttle it makes a grinding sound. It goes away when I pull in the clutch. It is a tyoe of revolving grinding noise.

May be broken snap ring which keeps gears in proper position, but since you posted this in the wrong category, don't expect many answers.

Every time I put it in drive most of the time it makes a clunk noise then when your slowly moving forward or backwards somewhere in the rear diff makes a bad clunking noise but once you take off and...

sounds like your u-joints on your drive shaft .
to test it jack up the rear end off the ground place jack stands on the frame for safety.
in park with car or truck off..
twist the drive shaft by hand and look for play if none than push and pull up and down and look for play.
there should be no play at all even a very little is a bad u joint..,

now if you have a lot of lash when you twist the shaft (over a half a turn ) now you have bigger problems

Have a 2008 passat that is making a lound clunking when I put into or change gears...how do I check to see ig it needs tranny fluid?

Try 4th gear. if not as much noise or no noise then its quite likly you need a transmission ohaul as the input gear that meshes with the cluster gear has stripped some teeth

1993 subaru loyale is making a horrible knocking/clunking noise

Hi the only other thing it could really be is the wheel bearing itself, usually in subarus they grind or clunk with wheel movement so if you go faster so does the noise, a garage would be able to tell you strait away as you cant really pull them apart without the right gear. Also check the strut, very unlikely but if a spring is collapesd it wll make a similar noise but wont speed up etc, its also worth noting that a cv can make the noises you describe but it would have to be completly destroyed and quite noticable hope this helps

Hi, when i'm coming off the third and the second gear mainly the 2nd gear it makes a clanking noise

My first thought here is your drive shaft u joints, but only because I've been stranded more than once by these. The higher torque of second will definitely make a worn u-joint "clunk". with the window down listen carefully as you engage and release your clutch in 1st gear, if you here any "clunking" noise I would check your u-joints. To do this SAFELY;ie, using jack stand etc. get under your car and try to turn the drive shaft by hand with the car in gear. ANY play in the drive shaft is bad. I'm not sure if you meant you've changed your clutch and the pressure plate or you did change out you flywheel. either way whichever you did not change could definitely be warped.

Truck makes a clunk when intially put into gear

Look for dust like rust color at either U-joint, my guess is it's time to change at least one, but if I did one, I'd do other too.
