This is complicated to explain. Any auto electric shop should be able to give you a diagram print out.(for a small fee)

Did you see the link in my comment below? It shows a new distributor cap that has the proper coil wires and plug wires embossed in the molding next to each tower.

yes i seen the distributor cap you sent me but i didn't see no coil so i can connect the wire from the the cap to either one of the coil mount on the left inner fender?

I also posted in my answer that the upper coil is supposed to be for the exhaust plugs and the lower coil is for the intake plugs.

I have a Haynes manual (not always the most reliable source) for 1980-1996 pickups, and according to this manual, dual coils were not used after 1985. From 1986 to 1989 there were still eight spark plugs but they all fired from one coil wire on the distributor. Plug wire order on the distributor (counterclockwise) began with 1I at the front, then to 2E, 3I, 1E, 4I, 3E, 2I, and 4E.
In the 1981-1985 models (two coils, two coil wires in distributor), the upper mounted coil (black plug) worked with the exhaust plugs, and the lower coil (orange plug) with the intake plugs. No diagram is shown regarding sequencing of the plug wires from the distributor to the spark plugs.

As suspected, the Haynes manual is not very accurate. This link showing a new distributor cap shows what you need to wire your distributor/plugs correctly:http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?...

What cause the engine to backfire on a 1989 nissan pickup truck?

Can be several things. Sounds like a first step would be to get or perform a tune-up. Another thing that can be a problem is the timing belt may need to be replaced.

How to get to all 8 spark plugs on 1988 nissan pickup in order to change them

You have intake and exhaust side plugs,I have a 85 nissan 2.4,but mine is carburated. The firing order is 1342 and on the distributor cap has the location of where the wires go,like i1,i2,i3,i4,e1,e2,e3.e4 and your wires for your intake and exhaust coil wires, don't cross them up,mark your coils with a i and a e.I use NGK plugs and wires.

1987 Nissan Pickup with Z24 Engine, Started to have rough Idle when Cold, I put new plugs all 8 Cap and Rotor, Checked hoses for Vacumm Leaks, When It warms up It Improves a little.

The coil wires may be inter changed or the one coil might not be friing. the intake cam in the most senseitive so if one coil is'nt firingyou can switch the coils as they are the same part and put it in the other coil wire and the other set of primary wires and put it all back together If it now fires on the exhaust side the coil is bad and just but a new coil if it still only runs on the same side you may be having troble with the distrubuter pickup. If you are a reman distrubutor from an auto parts store is the way to go as they have a warrentee to be good and the common man has the skill or the tolls to rebuild the distrubutor with a new pickup.
