Question about Holden Cars & Trucks
Hi Christine With the information you have supplied the only thing i can think of is a high resistance is being created when the fans come on,the slight burning smell may also be a clue. I have in the past come accross the actual fan connector burnt out. This may be worth checking. You will have to disconnect the connector and check for burnt terminals (normally obvious signs). If you cannot disconnect this connector it is probably because it is burnt, to confirm the wiring will be very hard and not very flexable near the connector. The connector is normally on the right side top of radiator (drivers side). Check all the wiring by fans do this check before starting engine ENGINE COLD KEYS OUT OF IGNITION.
If all ok put into Holden Dealer It may even be the fans themselves.Due to the cost of a new set of fans get it checked first.Good luck

Look at the wiring to the alt. if the is a single white wire going into the alt.,,, start the engine and have a partner wiggle the connector / wire and watch the lite. If the lite goes on and off with the wiggles ,,, change the wire connector. You may try cleaning with WD-40 or simular, but chances are the problem will be back.
