Key stuck, Can't turn car off

Yeah, have a 03 ZX5. Key is stuck in the "on" position, so not only can I not get key out, but I also can't turn the car off. Have to remove one of the battery cables to stop the engine from running. Tried just about everything I can think of or find to solve this with no luck so far.

You will probably need to find a workshop manual for the exact procedure for your car. Obviously something has broken inside your lock. I had something similar happen on my Toyota. Your car might be completely different but there will be a way to do it. I removed the plastic from around the steering column and found a small hole about 2mm in diameter in the side of the ignition switch. I inserted an Allan key in the hole. Any small metal thing would have done. While the key was in the accessories position inserting the metal thing allowed me to remove the barrel from the lock. Once I had it out I carefully removed the tumblers etc and found the problem. Take very carefull note where all the pieces are when you pull it apart. I did mine over a shoe box so I wouldn't loose anything. Otherwise you are going to need a lock smith to sort it out.

Hope this helped.

My key doesnt move to the turn engine over position or the off position in my 03 trailblazer.

Sounds like the key cylinder is broken. Try jiggling the key & pulling it in and out while turning it. hopefully you can get it to move that way. But it sounds like you are going to need a new cylinder or a whole ignition switch

Key stuck in ignition car stuck in park key won't go to off position

There may be to much pressure on the steering wheel lock for it to go into the off position. put the parking brake on. put the shifter in neutral gently turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction of where the wheels are pointed and try turning the key to the off position. Good Luck

Shift lever blocked in position D ?

Could be the park neutral switch. It senses that foot is on the brake pedal so shifter can be moved.

The odometer and RPM gauge on 03 SXT are stuck. They went 360 back

Try this, it works on other Chrysler products.

Insert key and turn to run position. put odometer on the trip position. turn key off.

While holding trip meter reset button in, turn key to run position ( dash lights will be on ) release trip meter reset button and watch the gauge cluster go through a test cycle.

After this cycle the gauges should return back to normal.

Hope this works for you.

How do I reprogam keys for my 03 Buick Rondezvous. We lost a key a few years ago and last year bought a new key (to have a spare). The car dealership had said that I needed to bring both keys &...

Insert key and turn ignition to on position. Wait untill the "security" light goes out (about ten minutes). Turn key off. do not remove. repeat this step two more times. After third time remove key. You should now be able to start vehicle. To program the spare use the already programed key and turn it to the on possition (dont start) then off. remove key and insert spare and turn to the on position. Wait for "security light to go out then turn key off. Both keys should now be programmed.
