Locating fuses for turn signals 2000 Saturn sl

My ignition was punched and the lock cylinder destroyed which caused the ATD aka PassLock to engage after finally figuring out how to bypass it which was not easy I got the car running but now my turn signaks don't work and I have checked all the fuses that i am aware of the one under the hood the one in the interior fuse panel and the bigger one located on the back of the fuse box am I missing any

There is another fuse box under the back seat that has the fuse for the interior lights. I have the same problem. I keep replacing fuses but they keep blowing. I don't know what to do.

I had the same problem and the flasher is not located in the fuse box because it is not a normal flasher. the cougar has an electronic flasher unit that is located on the left side of the center console. the best and cheapest place to order a new one is amazon.com. they run about $30-$40

well easiest way is to tape the old key near the ignition

without key you need to essentially re wire the ignition and under the hood arround the computer controlls and power supply

Hopefully you've gotten your car fixed by now, but mine just did the same thing today 4/25/2010. While changing the dome light, I blew the 10 amp 'Batt Saver' fuse located inside the car driver side fuse area. The mini fuses in the interior are nearly impossible to check if they are blown without a tester. I bought a cheap one for $5 at AutoZone and discovered. Once replaced, all worked fine. Hope this helps someone else with the same problem I had today.

There is an interior fuse panel just to the left of the passenger's left knee. The cover It is held on by velcro. After you take off the cover, you will see a diagram on the inside of the cover telling you which fuse is for what. This is covered in your manual, which is in the glovebox. If you do not have a manual you can get one off ebay for a few bucks.

No you didn't ! you only think you did . Turn signal switch has nothing to do with it .
Ignition Lock Cylinder and Housing
The ignition lock cylinder is located at the upper right side of the steering column. The Passlock™ sensor is in the steering column. The Passlock™ sensor is separate from the key and lock cylinder. The key and the lock cylinder work together in order to determine if the proper ignition key was used to start the vehicle.
In the event of an open Class 2 serial data line between the BCM and the VCM/PCM, the vehicle will become fail-enabled if the VCM/PCM has already received the password from the BCM for that ignition cycle (the engine is running). In this event, the following conditions occur:
• The security telltale will be ON continuously.
• The VCM/PCM will become fail-enabled for future ignition cycles.
If a failure in the Class 2 serial data line occurs before the ignition cycle, when the VCM/PCM is not fail-enabled, the following conditions occur:
• The VCM/PCM will never receive a valid password in order to enable the fuel injectors.
• The vehicle will not start.

The design of the passlock™ system is to prevent the vehicle operation if the proper ignition key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The mechanical key, in normal operation, will turn the passlock™ lock cylinder. The passlock™ sensor will relay the passlock™ data to the body control module (BCM). The BCM will determine the validity of the passlock™ data. The BCM will send a code password to the vehicle/powertrain control module (VCM/PCM). When the VCM/PCM receives the correct code the VCM/PCM allows the fuel injectors to operate normally. The passlock™ system requires the VCM/PCM and the BCM to communicate the various functions in order to operate. These functions transmit over the class 2 serial data line CKT 1807. For an explanation of the class 2 serial data operation refer to Data Link Connector Circuit Description in Wiring Systems.
Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop , there is a real possibility of rendering your vehicle useless if you don't know what your doing

Do you have a security light lit or flashing on the Instrument cluster ?
The theft deterrent system has been incorporated into the body control module (BCM). The theft deterrent is provided in order to prevent the vehicle operation if the correct key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The ignition key turns the lock cylinder. The cylinder rotation produces an analog voltage code in the passlock?"¢ sensor. This voltage code is received by the BCM. The BCM compares the voltage code to the previousely learned voltage code. If the codes match, a class 2 message is sent from the BCM to the powertrain control module (PCM)/vehicle control module (VCM). The message enables the fuel injectors.
The design of the passlock?"¢ system is to prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine unless the ignition lock cylinder rotates properly by engaging the correct ignition key. The system is similar in concept to the passkey system. However, the passlock?"¢ system eliminates the need for a key mounted resistor pellet. The components of the passlock?"¢ system are as follows:

The lock cylinder and the visible key insert portion of the ignition switch are located at the upper right side of the steering column. The electrical switching portion of the assembly is separate from the key and lock cylinder. The electrical switch portion is hidden inside the steering column. The electrical switch portion and the key and lock cylinder synchronize and work in conjunction through the action of the mechanical assembly between the 2 parts.
Passlock?"¢ Sensor
The passlock?"¢ sensor is inside the upper right side of the steering column. The passlock?"¢ sensor contains 2 hall effect sensors. The tamper hall effect sensor is on the top. The security hall effect sensor is under the tamper hall effect sensor. Both of the hall effect sensors monitor the magnet of the lock cylinder through an opening. The tamper hall effect sensor is physically placed on top of the security hall effect sensor. This arrangement enables the tamper hall effect sensor to engage first if an intruder attempts to bypass the passlock?"¢ sensor by placing a large magnet around that area of the steering column. There is a tamper resistor inside the passlock?"¢ sensor in order to help prevent tamper to the system. Passlock?"¢ equipped vehicles have a selection of 10 different security resistors ranging from 0.5K ohms up to 13.6K ohms. Installing one of the security resistors inside the passlock?"¢ sensor will generate a unique passlock?"¢ code. All 10 combinations of the passlock?"¢ sensor have the same part number. However, you cannot simply replace the passlock?"¢ sensor and expect the system to operate properly. Always start by performing the Diagnostic System Check first and following the instructions.
SECURITY Telltale
The SECURITY telltale appears on the message center inside the instrument cluster. If the SECURITY telltale flashes or if the SECURITY telltale lights continuously during the vehicle operation, refer to the system diagnosis.
Fuel Lockout Cycle
The Passlock?"¢ system has a lockout cycle of approximately 10 minutes. Once the vehicle is in the lockout cycle, the vehicle remains in the lockout cycle for 10 minutes, even if the ignition switch is turned from the RUN position to the OFF position.
The Passlock?"¢ system uses the lockout cycle in order to synchronize all of the Passlock?"¢ components when any Passlock?"¢ related part is changed. The Passlock?"¢ system requires 3 consecutive lockout cycles in order to complete the 30 minute learn procedure for a changed component.

I just installed a new key switch in my 2006 trailblazer it is a napa part now when I start it it will only run for a few seconds and die ?


That is because of the vehicle theft deterrent system ! Do you have a security light lit on the instrument cluster ?
The Passlock?"¢ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock?"¢ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.
The components of the Passlock?"¢ System are as follows:

Ignition Lock Cylinder Case, Including the Passlock?"¢ Sensor
The ignition lock cylinder fits inside the ignition lock cylinder case and operates the ignition switch when turned by a key with the proper mechanical cut. When the ignition key is used to turn the ignition lock cylinder to crank, start, a magnet on the lock cylinder passes close to the Passlock?"¢ sensor within the ignition lock cylinder case. The magnet activates the security hall effect sensor in the Passlock?"¢ sensor which completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit. The resistance value will vary from vehicle to vehicle.
If a magnet from outside of the ignition lock cylinder case is used to attempt to steal the vehicle, the tamper hall effect sensor will be activated. This completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a tamper resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit bypassing the security resistor. If the ignition switch is forced to rotate without the correct key, or if the ignition lock cylinder is removed by force, the Passlock?"¢ sensor will be damaged and will not operate.

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

Passlock security


The 2000 saturn runs the passlock system. Unlike VATS its predecesser, this system is much harder to bypass. The old "resister" trick that many people still do, does not apply for this system. So lets start at the basics. The security light flashing indicates 1 of 3 things. The problem in your passlock is either in the KEY, IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER, or WIRING before the Theft Deterrent Module (computer). This means you could replace the key or the ignition (whichever is to blame) and you might be ok. You would have to reprogram the key to the ignition. The other option is to bypass it. Unfortunately that costs money also, but honestly no more than a new transponder key and far less than a Lock Cylinder. Just trying to give you all the options. Here is a link that explains the SECURITY problem rather well and gives some good tricks and options for fixing this yourself permanently

When i turned off my car yesterday, key would not turn to lock therefore key will not come out


Most likely you have a problem with ignition cylinder. You would need to remove the lower steering wheel cover. locate the ignition cylinder. There should be a small hole towards the center of the cylinder. If you use a small Punch and small hammer and tap on that spot, you should be able to rotate the key to lock. You will have to eventually replace the ignition cylinder, though. But should work like that for a while.

I have to replace an ignition switch for a 2000 saturn sl2 not sure of laction of switch


You put the key into the lock cylinder, the lock cylinder is directly attached to the ignition switch. Both are inside the plastic boot around steering column.

2000 Saturn SL2 - replaced ignition then BCM failed. Related?


the problem is not the bcm. the passlock security sensor is in the cylinder and housing, if the cyl and or housing was replaced the system must be relearned. if you replace the bcm you still need to relearn the system or it still will not start.
