Why won't rear end raise up ?

I have a 2000 Lincoln Town car, had the same problem, it was the rear air suspension/shocks. They are air bags basically that levels your car and it cost about $300.00 for each at the dealer for parts and install but it also has its own motor that inflates and deflates these air bags and I also had to replace that and that cost over $400.00 installed at the dealer.

Rear air suspension

The air system does not lower when you get out, it levels the car and stays level, but is you put weight in trunk and people sitting in the back seat and the car lifts to level out with the weight and then you remove all the weight and rear end is to high up then there is a problem.
These bags do not lift that high, if you hear the solenoids make sure it is not lower , measure. Also, the release of the air is very slow, make sure it is not lower, if you hear the solenoids open the car may be lowering very slow. check the height. If you are sure its not lowering then you may be correct in saying the level sensor may be bad. the only other part would be the solenoids but i would start with the level sensor as the air is going into the bags.
I quick test to check solenoids at bags is to start car and go rear the rear and locate the sensor, remove the arm from the control arm and bring it down so computer thinks car is to high and see if air is released. caution don"t stay under the car as it will lower down slowly. if it starts to lower then turn key off and reconnect lever and replace sensor.there is a company we use that is real good at this air bag system and prices are good with quality parts.http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LINCOLN_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid2.html

Tell me how the rear suspension works. the rear

There is a compressor underneath the car on the passenger side (RHD) which inflates two rubber suspension bags on the rear axle. This is controlled by the SLABS ECU and a pair of height sensors on the rear trailing arms.
You probably have two failed bags, and may now also have a knackered compressor if it's not managing to inflate it due to it having been working overtime!
Sometimes you can have issues due to the valve block inside the compressor housing also.
Bags are ~ £100 each, height sensors are ~£35 each, valve block is iirc about £100-£200, and the compressor is £300-400.
Bags/sensors can be DIY'd easily with the right tools.

Removing rear air suspension on GMC Envoy

Just behind right rear tire up in the wheel well. Air inlet is inside right rear quarter near the accessory inflator. Compressor runs 3 lines one for the accessory inflator and one for each air bag.
THere are also 2 sensors, one on each trailing arm that senses load and then raises and lowers accordingly.

Discovery rear air suspension sitting down overnight

My car did this. I could actually park and feel my car raise up or down. Looking at my car it was sitting completely crooked as if I had hydraulics. lol I have a 2001 Discovery II. When I had it fixed at the dealer it was the rear airbag which is part of the air ride suspansion. I hope this helps.

Land rover Discovery 2004, rear right hand side down 2 inches

If you have the coil spring suspension, then your spring for that corner has really sagged[doubtful] I suspect you actually have the rear air suspension ,and the air spring for the Right/Rear has lost air, allowing the rear end to lower down greatly. Usually, you need a new air spring when one develops a leak. You may or may not be able to see the leak with a spray solution of soapy water after the spring is removed for inspection. Sometimes you have to apply about 20psi of air pressure into the spring to inflate it a bit, then put the spring under water in a big enough tank/tub of water to catch the leak that way.

Driver side air bag suspension will not stay inflated on my 94

Check the sensor located on the rear A-arm, I think it is what send the signal to the compressor telling it to raise or lower the suspension.
