SOURCE: I have 2002 Hyundai XG350L the car will not start

Hi. This sounds like your "Neutral Safety switch". It's designed so that you don't start your car in gear in drive and accidentally crash.

Here is the part at autozone.

... These are in the shifter on most cars, but sometimes they are hidden on top of the transmission. I'm sorry, I don't have a book on your exact model.

Hope that helps.

SOURCE: engine will not turnover

If there is no power coming IN to the starter relay - the ignition module has failed.
Replace the Ignition.

SOURCE: my starter will not engage,

it sounds like you have a anti theft system problem, the system can self test with a GM dealer scanner, but the problem must be duplicated by the dealer to fix it.

SOURCE: 2002 Impala 3.8 will not

You need to check and see if the security light is on or flashing. If it is then the security system is what is keeping the vehicle from starting. You need to get the codes from the Theft Deterrent module and from there it will need to be diagnosed to find the problem. The Theft Deterrent module and the PCM is what allow power to the starter once it sees that the correct key has been used.If you have a worn out key this could cause it not to work.So if you have a second key you can try that first. If the light is not on or flashing then you have to check the crank fuse on the left side of the instrument panel.Let me know what you find out.I`ll be glad to help you out with any codes and tell you what they are.Good luck.

Manual or automatic transmission ? Do you know how complex the electronics are on these vehicles ? What's involved in the starting of the vehicle ?
The battery cable supplies a constant connection from the battery to the solenoid switch . The ignition switch and either the park/neutral position (PNP) switch or the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch provide inputs to the engine control module (ECM). The ECM controls the activation of the start relay.
With the ignition switch in the START position and the automatic transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL, or the clutch pressed to the floor, current flows via the start relay to the solenoid switch. This activates the solenoid switch windings. The pull-in winding causes powerful magnetism to pull in the solenoid switch plunger. The hold-in winding holds the plunger in and the pull-in winding deactivates.
The solenoid switch simultaneously closes the switch contacts to connect terminal 30 to the DC motor and pivots the fork lever to engage the drive assembly to the flexplate or flywheel ring gear.
When the solenoid switch contacts close, current flows from the battery through the DC motor, which spins and provides cranking torque.
Start Relay
The engine control module (ECM) controls the operation of the start relay. When the ignition switch is turned to the START position , the ECM will enable the start relay for 1 second. If the ECM does not receive the correct theft deterrent signal from the powertrain integration module (PIM), it will disable the starter relay. If the ECM receives the correct signal from the PIM, it will continue to enable the start relay. When the engine has started and the engine speed is above 500 RPM, the ECM will disable the start relay, preventing starter engagement while the engine is running.

Replacing a fuse engine wont start 2005 hummer h2

Is the anti-theft light lit on the instrument cluster ? Won't start how ? When you turn the key to start , what happens ? Nothing ? This would be a No crank - no start condition . Now if you turn the key to start and the starter engages and spins the engine and it doesn't start an run , this is a engine cranks no start condition ! Now which is your problem ?

There are two fuse's IGN A fuse 40amp and IGN E fuse 10amp ,both are located in the under hood fuse/relay box . Also there is starter relay located in the same under hood fuse /relay box . There also is a crank fuse 10amp in the under hood fuse box . Besides the fuse's and relay ,the ignition switch or the PNP - park neutral position switch could be bad . Testing the whole starter circuit should be done ! How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit

Where is the neutral safety switch located on the transmission and is there another switch that would keep the starter from engaging?

If it is an automatic it is part of the Range sensor switch on the transmission where the cable hooks up from the linkage.

2005 GMC Envoy XL. Will not engage starter. Like something electrical. Turn key and nothing. Worked fine until now.

Could be the neutral safety switch if it won't crank in neutral or park, could also be the starter has failed.

This sounds primarily like a starter on it's way out. The next time the starter will not engage the first time, have someone else hold the key into the start position and you tap the starter with a hammer and if it engages, replace your starter. Let me know if you need instructions on how to do so.

Have you taken the vehicle any where an had diagnostic's run ? Given all the electronic's on your vehicle your problems could be caused by any number of thing's ! An guessing could cause you to just replace parts , an that's not the way to diagnose this . Hooking up a factory or professional scanner an test driving the vehicle while a qualified tech veiw's sensor data to see what is droping out would be the way to diagnose, could have a sensor shorted out internally ,but which one ? This would bring down the five volt ref. circuit in the PCM. Plus the starting system on your vehicle is computer controlled . The ignition switch is an input to the BCM -body control module , the BCM sends a crank message to the PCM - engine computer ,the PCM energizes the crank relay which sends B+ voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . Your best bet , have a qualified repair shop check it out . You have no idea of the complexity of the electronic's on your vehicle. The starter staying engaged could be as simple as relay contacts sticking or as complicated as a BCM or ignition switch problem I know GM had their share of problems with both .
This is out of GM service repair manual .
Circuit Description (Key Start)
When the ignition switch is placed in the Start position a discrete 12 volts signal is supplied to the body control module (BCM) notifying it that the ignition is in the Start position. The BCM then supplies a class 2 message to the engine control module (ECM) / powertrain control module (PCM) notifying it that CRANK has been requested. At the same time the BCM is supplying 12 volts for the IGN 1 Relay closing it and supplying battery positive voltage for the crank relay coil. The ECM/PCM verifies that the transmission is in Park or Neutral. If it is, the ECM/PCM grounds the control circuit of the CRANK Relay. When this occurs battery positive voltage is supplied through the switch side of the crank relay to the S terminal of the starter solenoid.

When starting 1997 aspire in morning-delay in starting

Starter solenoid probably.
Sequence of Operation

NOTE: An overrunning clutch in the drive assembly protects the starter motor (11002) from excessive speeds during the brief period before the driver releases the ignition switch (11572) from the START position (as the engine (6007) starts).

  1. The ignition switch is turned to the START position.
  1. The starter solenoid (11390) is energized, creating a magnetic field in the solenoid coil.
  1. The iron plunger core is drawn into the solenoid coil.
  1. A drive lever and pin (11067) connected to the drive assembly engages the starter drive (11350) to the flywheel ring gear.
  1. When the iron plunger core is all the way into the coil, its contact disc closes the circuit between the battery (10655) and the starter motor terminals.
  1. The current flows to the starter motor, and the starter drive cranks the flywheel (6375) and the crankshaft (6303).
  1. As current flows to the starter motor, the pull-in coil is bypassed.
  1. The hold-in coil keeps the starter drive engaged with the flywheel.
  1. The starter drive remains engaged until the ignition switch is released from the START position.

#1 is the stater with the solenoid on top of it.
