SOURCE: 2002 vw passat....starts fine and drives

It appears that your brake booster system has a major vacuum leak which is causing the engine to go lean and stall. Check the hose between the intake manifold and the brake booster. It may be cracked or loose causing outside air to enter the hose when the brake is applied.

SOURCE: vw golf 1.6 se has fault code 16786 exhaust gas

Ok, im sorry, in my part of the country they where not sold, i just wanted to make sure i had the correct info, i guess your in australia or the uk.i would check the egr valve and the transducer, this is a valve that controls the egr, and one more thing is the vacuum sel,if this goes bad it will not open the valve, remove the valve and check for carbon build up in the hole, if the car is running and you open the egr valve it should drop in idle even stall, if theres no change in the idle then i would say the port is clogged in the intake, you can open the valve by appling vacuum to the port or lift open fromunder the valve, good luck, these engines are the same as the 1991 vanagon, heres a diagram of the valve and how it works, heres three types but operate the same, may help.bf91a1d.gif17ea141.gifbe0cc9c.gifc5e9d5c.gif

SOURCE: vw golf mk5 airbag fault wires cut under seat

You can reset the Airbag ECU only using VAG or similar diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, even you had repaired first fault wires cut under seat! After all faults erasing from the Airbag ECU the airbag warning light will turn OFF.

Epc light on 2001 golf mark 4 car running ok, what

EPC: Electronic Power Control

The ME7 engine management system uses electronic controls to operate the throttle valve rather than the usual braided cable. Pedal resistance and operation matches cable designs so that the operator is unlikely to differentiate. In an event of a failure with either one of the accelerator pedal position sensor (G79 or G185), the other sensor signal would be used in a limited capacity with functions such as cruise control deactivated. If both sensors malfunction, the ECM will limit engine speed to proximately 1200 rpm.

Now as to your question regarding error codes (DTC, SAE/VAG fault codes), as VW scan tool or similar needs to be hooked up to your vehicle in order to read which ones are stored in the ECU. This codes will tell you which area of the system came from and what problem they are related to. Only with a scanner makes all this possible, without it, it would be an expensive guessing game besides being very unreliable.

Checking the fault codes

Yes.  Next to the ash tray there is a black slide off plate that reveals the OBD I plug.  {1996 and newer can be read with an OBD II reader (read for free at Advance auto or Auto Zone)}  Once you reveal this plug on the 1995, you can plug in a single jumper wire (or even a paper clip) in the #4 and #15 pin hole.  There are two rows of pin holes, count from the upper right to the #4, then on to #15 (which will be the second to last pin hole).  Turn the ignition switch on (motor not running), insert the jumper wire for about 3 to 5 seconds, then remove the wire.  The ENGINE LIGHT will flash a hold, then the code, which will go something like this, flash, flash, PAUSE, flash, flash, PAUSE, flash, PAUSE, flash, flash, flash, flash.  Then it will repeat the codes if you just sit there and observe it.  The code in my example would be a 2214 code.
Below are some code I found on a website.  I hope this helps.  Now I ask that you take the time to answer someone elses question.  Lets all share.  Good luck, "Peace through power and knowledge"

Idling speed vw golf petrol 1.4 2001

That sounds about right, the idle speed may not even be manually settable due to emissions regulations.
I know for sure you can't adjust the idle mixture anymore; that is determined by sensors and the on-board computer.
There may still be adjustments on some cars but they are often sealed with lead to avoid tinkering.
