There is a problem in the shift linkage or internally in the transmission.
Needs further diagnostics.

My 1992 chevy van transmission is shifting hard and it takes a minute to shift just put it in last night its a good ****** what could make this happen

The cable going to the transmission from the throttle body needs adjusted. There is a locking clip like thing on the throttle body end of the cable. Pull that clip out and it will let the cable move in and out of the bracket. Then hold the throttle all the way open and push the clip back in, that will adjust the cable for your van. I hope this is helpful for you. Please rate my answer so I get points awarded for it.

The way you adjust the cable is you push in on the tab push the cable in all the way release tab and then get in the truck and press the gas pedal to the floor..Now it will shift..Your pushing in on the little cone that is right before the cable comes out of it all the way to wards the tab your pushing down and then letting go of the tab then pressing your gas pedal all the way to the floor. Then its adjusted..It should shift now Have a great day

bad design flaw with the transmission kick down cable make sure you are in OD first but if you are then this cable is adjustable it is next to the throttle cable and tells the trans when to downshift only adjust very little increments as this can easily blow your tanni as you may already know this feeling
