Maybe the clutch winding on compressor has burned out. Check it for continuity since all was ok till you shut down the car and restarted it.

My ac works and blows well at times the ac will just blow hot air. I will turn off and turn back on a day or so later and then the ac works fine. 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500. any help?

I had the same problem - charged the freon, no help. Finally an ole timer AC guy found the problem - the clutch gap needed to be adjusted. Don't know if he tightened or loosened, but find an AC guy and ask them about the clutch gap.
