How many cans of freon and what kind does it take to recharge air conditioning system in a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder 3500

It should say on the compressor either R134A or R14. But the real question is why did it leak out you may need to have it teased for leaks.

Air conditioning light flashes and air con does not seem to wwork

Hello Don Emmett,

I suppose this would be a really great time to ask...
because one cannot offer an intelligent answer with
being the all knowing... all seeing (blah blah blah)...
Year, make & model
...??

Sadly for you... I'm the second twin ... which OFFICIALY makes me "the other" (as opposed to the "one" mentioned before...

I seldom even wait for questions to be completed... before starting my answers.

Year, make & model...does matter (just not much)...
Somewhere in the last couple of decades... automotive
engineers felt they could add a level of reliability
by adding pressure switches... This keeps the COMPRESSORS from POINTLESSLY OPERATING without any REFRIGERANT in the system

(low pressure = escaped refrigerant)

Refrigerant gets away sometimes because the "condenser"
(typically in front of the RADIATOR)... got hit by a "road hazard"
and now has a nice leak... or more likely THE INPUT SHAFT SEAL on your COMPRESSOR is worn... (oil shows... behind the clutch... (on your otherwise spotless engine (little oily dirt line inside the hood (too))). My money is on the FRONT SEAL.

Fix it... Gambling will only get you another season or two
but will likely result in an ENTIRE pump replacement.

If you are half psychic you might want to gamble or guess how much oil got away... there are ways to add oil without opening the system)... After this point there is more begetting & begetting than the old testament.

Run without enough oil... lose the compressor + condenser + dryer. Put in the wrong oil or in-compatible REFRIGERANT...
gum up the system...

Just fix it... Seals are cheap...
If it WAS a FREON 22 system it is long past needing an update.
California ... it is a CAPITAL CRIME to even speak of refrigerant...
Unless you are in the Mojave (did you ever notice how quiet everybody gets above 115 degrees?)...

I'm just saying

Disclose what refrigerant you are using... in which car... the age of the car... Bullet holes, raccoons living under hood? Oil all over the compressor... and I can speculate if shorting the pressure switch will cause the clutch to engage... or blow up the compressor.

My best guess YOUR REFRIGERANT IS LOW.

Share a couple of details... I'm sure I can help.

Warning lights

I do not see it as a problem as such . If the light is on and the compressor is engaged and the a/c is cooling that is how it is supposed to be . IF you press the button and the light goes off and the clutch on the a/c compressor releases and the a/c stops working that is how it should be. Obviously you have a problem but if you can ask the question in a more simply direct way I could give you the answer you require.

I need to unplug my compressor on a 2004 trailblazer. Does any one know what plug is everybody talking about? No one is telling where is the plug located.

The plug everyone is speaking about is right on top of the air compressor pump under the hood it will probably have a couple wires coming out of the compressor which will plug into another wire. Just unhook these and you compressor should stop running.

Hello cacheek,

Check your brake lights especially the "HIGH BRAKE LIGHT" this is the one on the cab above the rear window.

If it is out replace the bulbs and recheck your cruise control operation.

The back end of my 2002 Bravada suddenly sags. i have been told is it not the shocks but the air compressor. how much is the cost to repair this problem, at a dealership?

The first thing to do is establish the condition of the compressor. Using jumper wires, connect the compressor to direct battery voltage. Make sure you don't have a blown fuse. If the compressor works with direct voltage, then the problem lies elsewhere. Make sure all the air lines are connected and in good shape. Check to see if the level sensor under the rear of the vehicle is getting vovltage. If your compressor doesn't come on when you apply direct voltage, then it will have to be replaced. Shop around for the best deal on a new compressor. The dealership will charge you a tremendous markup.

No power to AC compressor

well what you can do because your switch is bad is have a mechanic install a toggle switch that has to be flipped on before you turn on your ac and your compressor will go back to working normally. wired directly to battery is the only way to guarantee that you will get back to that ice cold as. How do I add freon to the A/C on my 1993 Subaru Impreza ?

Hi DO NOT BYPASS the tryrister switch!!!!!!!!!.

You can safely add R12 (freon) from a can with the system not running ,when you have enough gas and oil mix added to the system the compressor will stsart automatically the problem you have is not knowing if there is a leak in the system,as you need to check this as venting R12 to the atmosphere can land you in prison if caught !!!!,.The best advice I can give you is take the car to an Air-con specialist and he will carry out all the checks on the system for you and re-gas the system properly.

Air Conditioning relay

There are 3 relays along the side of the engine compartment close to the battery. Next to these 3 relays are 2 more relays directly in front of the battery. Of the 3 relays, the one closest to the battery is the ac compressor relay. The ac condensor fan motor relay is the one on the left directly in front of the battery and is next to the ac compressor relay.
