Question about BMW 318

1 Answer

I have a 1992 BMW 318 where the front brakes all of a sudden are running 'on'. when driving the car, drop it into neutral and it's like having the foot on the brake - the car slows significantly. Drive the car for 10KM and heat can be felt from both front brake calipers/disks. I removed both front wheels - the disks turn easily enough by hand with minor pad contact, but as soon as I drive it thre front brakes drag. Is this related to the ABS?

Sounds like the master cylinder /brake servo push rod need adjusting ,remove the master cylinder by just unbolting it and pulling it away a bit ,then with a nice young dolly bird with mini skirt on to assist ,push brake down and on the end of the protuding rod is an adjuster ,screw it in a bit and try that ,it might need a bit more adjustment later if problem persists

Bmw 318 was driving ok then suddenly could,nt get any gears

You did not mention whether your car was a stick or an automatic.
I guess it may be a stick.
If so, likely your slave cylinder, or maybe your clutch master cylinder failed.
Under the hood of your car, in front of the driver's seat, are 2 master cylinders mounted on the firewall.
The larger one is for your brakes, the smaller one is for your clutch. Open the hood and look, the smaller one mat be out of brake fluid, which means the car will not shift, because the clutch is not being activated.
You will need to either change the transmission-mounted cylinder ( the slave cylinder), the firewall mounted cylinder ( the master cylinder), or both of them.
God bless your efforts.

1992 auto 318i bmw judders at low revs

Hello there

If you drive an automatic and it starts to judder at low speeds than that means you transmission isn't down shifting as the speed is reduced. In the first instance you should get your transmission oil changed.

Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate me.
