It could be the torque converter, but I don't know how he would be able to tell it was that and not the pump or a solenoid failure without taking the pan off the transmission or running a pressure test.
stripped gears in your differential or your ****** start the car put in gear and have some one look at the drive shaft to see if it is rotating you have to put it in a lift
If you can hear something turning but your engine is not cranking over either your drive gear on your starter motor is sticking and not engaging or your starter drive and/or flywheel ring gear teeth are worn away. Remove your starter motor and chech the drive gear can be moved. If ti is sticking wind it down and spray it with wd40. Don't be tempted to put grease on it. If it is a pre-engaged motor it could be gear wear or sticking mechanism.
have car scanned--the injectors may hav issues-like dirty or the throttle position sensor also--cud be some vacuum leaks or and egr problem too--just cause theirs no engine lite on-codes can exist
take it into a shop and have the fuel pressure checked, or at least the fuel filter replaced if it has been a while.
it could be any number of sensor causing a issue or just in need of a good old tune up
