You might think that in might be in neutral your cable need replacing shift cable or adjusting Aldo you may have a bad neutral safety switch which can be very dangerous

1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

Shifter moves freely, won't go into drive

Probably came loose from the shifter on the transmission. Dodge trucks are very prone to that problem.

2012 Dodge charger is stuck in drive ...any idea on how to get it out of drive? Even tow truck driver doesn't want to load it do to this issue.

Only thing I can think of for such a newer vehicle is the something broke inside the transmission. When you feel the clicks shifting, this is a spring loaded ball bearing that keeps the parking pawl in position. Older cars I would say the cable locked. You can remove the cable from the transmission shifter and see if it will move by hand. If not, remove the drive shaft and have it towed safely. Remove the end at the transmission. Six bolts and the rubber piece. Have a pry bay to get the rubber out.

New 1969 c4 auto transmission has park but no reverse or netural

Is it possible the transmission was not made for a Mustang ?
With the shifter on the floor, the linkage would be different than a car with the shifter on the column.
Have you contacted the company ?

The car will start just not go into any gears

if it is an automatic vehicle you have, then you might want to check the cable from the shifter to the transmission. sometimes they can break, and sometimes catch on something that prevents you from shifting. Now if it is a manual vehicle, then you will need to look for another transmission.

2006 Dodge Charger won't go into reverse

Hi All. My friend figured out the problem. There is a piece in the shifter that was broken. It's what controls the shifter going in and out of gear. I couldn't get it in ANY gear at all (reverse being the first one you come to; it's an automatic). I found some GREAT forums that have instructions etc to fix it, including pictures, drawings, and wonderful links to where to buy just what I need. also has the part I need, so I'm extremely happy. Dodge wanted $181 for the whole shift kit in order to fix this problem! Ridiculous. The part is a tiny little plastic piece that's probably worth $3! Billet sells the part in aluminum instead of crappy plastic for $49.99. Dodge says you can't buy the plastic piece by itself; only the whole shift kit. LOL. Yeah, right! Anyway, the problem is easily solved. According to workers that we spoke to at Dodge, this is a common problem... seems like a lot of people have had this happen. Wouldn't u think that they would recall this item?! Again, LOL, and yeah, right! Thanks to EVERYONE who helped me!

Transmission shifter

There is a solenoid that pulls a little pin back when the brake is depressed, they get gummed up and cause your type of problem, clean and lube the pin.
