Rodent chewed air conditioning hoses and died in there.how to clean out a.c. And reach a.c. hose near dash mechanic can't reach. He says dash has to come off,any ideas

My mechanic looked to see why air conditioning wasn't working. Cleaned vents, found terrible odor, thinks rodent dead in my 1997 Honda Accord A.C. replaced two hoses, says can't reach hose near dash, thinks dash needs to come off. Air Conditioning still not working. Need suggestions. I am widow!!! Help!

I would try opening it up (ductwork) where ever you can and blow it out with high pressure air hose, maybe use vacuum sweeper.

How to take the steering wheel off a 1995 2.2 liter pontiac sunfire to change the heater core


Replacing the heater core in a Pontiac Sunfire is a very difficult and complex process. The heater core is kept within the car's heating/air conditioning module behind the instrument panel. So many other parts have to be drained and removed from the car to reach the heating/air conditioning unit that you may be better off leaving this to a professional mechanic--especially one licensed to work on air conditioning units.
Things You'll Need:

  • Wrench
  • Container
  • Air conditioning reclaimer
  • Hose clamp pliers
  • Screwdrivers
  • Heater core
  • R134a refrigerant
  • Recharge service hose
  1. Removing the Core
    • Make sure the car is cool, the front wheels are facing forward and the ignition switch is off. Drain the engine coolant by removing the drain plug at the radiator and letting the coolant pour into a clean container, then do the same at the engine block's drain plug. Recover the refrigerant by connecting an air conditioning reclaimer to the system high and low side fittings as its instructions state.
    • Disconnect the evaporator lines to the evaporator by removing its bolt and disconnect the heater hoses from the core by loosening the hose clamps with clamp pliers. Remove the drain tube from the evaporator case. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    • Remove all the trim covers and panels from the instrument panel; some of these are screwed on and some require a flat bladed tool. Remove all air distribution ducts from the panel, the air bags, the steering wheel, the radio, the tilt and washer levers and all electrical connectors, then unscrew and remove the instrument panel from the car. Unbolt the cross vehicle beam, remove its wiring harness and remove the beam.
    • Remove the air outlet in the floor. Disconnect the wiring harness for the heater/air conditioner and the electrical connectors at the blower's motor and resistor.
    • Remove the heater/air conditioning module by removing its attaching bolts and the assembly screw. Remove the heater cover case by removing its heat stakes and screws and remove the heater core.
    • Install the replacement core into the heater/air conditioner module, then re-connect the heater core cover case. Install the assembly in the vehicle, aligning the mounting bracket to the front of the dash slot and mounting bolt hole. Reconnect the electrical connectors and wiring harness and install the floor air outlet.
    • Reinstall the cross vehicle beam and every component of the instrument panel. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
    • Install the drain tube back on the evaporator case. Connect the hater hoses and the evaporator lines.
    • Recharge the air conditioner. Connect a can of R134a refrigerant to the air conditioner's low side service fitting with a recharge service hose and a high pressure gauge to the high side fitting. Open the service hose valve while the car runs with the A/C at the max and let the vapor flow until the gauge reads between 225 and 250 PSI.
    • Refill the cooling system at the radiator filler neck. Use fresh coolant if the old liquid is dirty in any way

Where is the air conditioning drain hose for a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse


It’s in the hardest place to reach they could put it. Get under your car and follow the firewall near the center. You'll see a small hose poking out that you can barely reach with an air hose wand. Debris often plug the drain hose. If you hear water sloshing on the passenger side in the dash and/or the passenger side carpet is soaked, blow air through the drain tube to unblock it. Also the grommet around the hose there at the firewall can deteriorate and let condensed water blow back into the driver’s side floor pan. With a lot of effort you can pack silicon sealant around the drain tube at the exiting firewall location and solve that problem. With real effort you can place silicon around it from the interior also. If you don't have a compartment filter or your filter is old and ineffective, you'll be amazed at how much debris sets on your condenser coil down there in the center of the dash (if your airflow is less than you remember and not as cold, the condenser coil is likely covered in debris)...and it's almost impossible to clean it out without disassembling the dash. That's another story on how to fix...

Looking to replace heater core


Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, 1999-2005

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect and remove the negative battery.
    CAUTION After disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait 2 minutes for the driver-s/passenger-s air bag system capacitor to discharge before attempting to do any work around the steering column or instrument.
  2. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  3. Remove the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Turn the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
    2. Remove the knee blocker from the instrument panel.
    3. Remove the steering column; do not remove the air bag module, the steering wheel or switches from the steering column.
    4. From under the driver-s side of the instrument panel, disconnect the following items:

      Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the 100-way wiring harness connector at the left side of the inner panel. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct on the driver-s side.
    5. Remove the glove box.
    6. Reaching through the glove box opening, disconnect the following items:

      Two halves of the heater/air conditioning system vacuum harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the heater/air conditioning system wiring harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector from the passenger-s side air bag module wiring harness connector. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct (passenger-s side). Two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector. Two instrument panel wiring harness connectors from the passenger air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness connector. Passenger-s side air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness from the retainer clip on the plenum bracket that supports the heater/air conditioning housing just inboard of the fuse block module. Two lower passenger-s side air bag module bracket-to-dash panel nuts.
    7. Remove the upper cover from the instrument panel.
    8. Remove the 3 instrument panel-to-door hinge pillar screws.
    9. Remove the 4 upper instrument panel-to-dash nuts.
    10. Using an assistant, remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  4. If equipped with air conditioning, discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  5. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator. Plug the refrigerant openings to prevent evaporation.
  6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.
  7. Disconnect the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector from the T-fitting near the heater core tubes.
  8. In the engine compartment, remove the 5 heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts. If necessary, loosen the battery hold-downs and reposition the battery for access.
  9. Remove the cowl plenum drain tube from the heater/air conditioning housing stud; it-s located behind the cylinder head on the cowl.
  10. From the bottom of the heater/air conditioning housing, remove the floor duct.
  11. On the passenger side, remove the heater/air conditioning housing-to-plenum bracket screw.
  12. Pull the heater/air conditioning housing down far enough to clear the defrost/demist and fresh air ducts, then, rearward far enough to clear the mounting studs and the evaporator drain tube to clear the dash panel holes.
  13. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing assembly from the vehicle.
  14. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing upper case.
  15. Lift the heater core from the lower half of the heater/air conditioning housing.
To install:
  1. Assemble the heater core into the lower half of the heater/air conditioning housing.
  2. Install the heater/air conditioning housing upper case.
  3. Install the heater/air conditioning housing assembly to the vehicle.
  4. On the passenger-s side, install the heater/air conditioning housing-to-plenum bracket screw.
  5. At the bottom of the heater/air conditioning housing, install the floor duct.
  6. Install the cowl plenum drain tube to the heater/air conditioning housing stud; it-s located behind the cylinder head on the cowl.
  7. In the engine compartment, install the 5 heater/air conditioning housing-to-chassis nuts.
  8. Connect the heater/air conditioning system vacuum supply line connector to the T-fitting near the heater core tubes.
  9. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes.
  10. Connect the refrigerant lines to the evaporator.
  11. If equipped with air conditioning, evacuate and charge the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  12. Install the instrument panel by performing the following procedure:
    1. Using an assistant, install the instrument panel to the vehicle.
    2. Install the 4 upper instrument panel-to-dash nuts.
    3. Install the 3 instrument panel-to-door hinge pillar screws.
    4. Install the upper cover to the instrument panel.
    5. Reaching through the glove box opening, connect the following items.

      Two lower passenger-s side air bag module bracket-to-dash panel nuts. Passenger-s side air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness to the retainer clip on the plenum bracket that supports the heater/air conditioning housing just inboard of the fuse block module. Two instrument panel wiring harness connectors to the passenger air bag ON/OFF switch wiring harness connector. Two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector. Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct (passenger-s side). Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the passenger-s side air bag module wiring harness connector. Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the heater/air conditioning system wiring harness connector. Two halves of the heater/air conditioning system vacuum harness connector.
    6. Install the glove box.
    7. Under the driver-s side of the instrument panel, connect the following items:

      Side window demister hose at the heater/air conditioning housing demister/defroster duct on the driver-s side. Instrument panel wiring harness connector to the 100-way wiring harness connector at the left side of the inner panel.
    8. Install the steering column.
    9. Install the knee blocker to the instrument panel.

  13. Connect and remove the negative battery.
  14. Refill the cooling system.
  15. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

Water leaking under the dash


If on the passenger side when the air conditioning has been running, most likely a clogged air conditioning drain hose. You can located it by reaching under the dash in the passenger foot well. I have cleaned mine by removing the end of the hose from the firewall grommet and inserting a wire in the hose to clear the clog, then used a shop vac to **** out the debris through the hose. I did this several times. Take a container to catch the water as once you clear the clog the water will come running out all over your head.

Airconditioner drain is blocked , when the a\ir con is running water and condensation drips from the aircon onto the carpet. how do i find where the drain is so i can unblock it?


Look under the passenger side of the car near the engine compartment for a thin, flexible hose that barely sticks down from the bottom of the body pan.
Either apply suction from a strong vacuum cleaner, or compressed air to this hose.
Note that the hose may be under the hood on the firewall depending on model. It may be very hard to reach.
You may have to remove the glovebox to locate this hose.

2001 Windstar- I have no heat or defrost. I do


I had this problem and noticed a faint clunking sound behind the radio. It was the blend door motor that needed to be replaced. The motor has small fine tooth plastic gears that wear out and won't open to allow heat.

Water leaks into car due to clogged air conditioning hose


They are not always easy to see and they differ in length but yes they are typically on the passenger side firewall and may extend down towards the lower firewall or just drop out an inch from the firewall. a coat hanger is not always going to work and you will need to be careful not to put a hole in the evaporator that sits just inside from where that drain comes out. it is possible that the lower cover where the condensation is collected has a crack and may not be pluged at all. look above where it drips on the floor and see if there is any sign of damage to that cover. You may find that it is easier to take off the cover and clean. that will just depend on your confidence in dismanteling that part of the dash and heater box.

No heat


if the heater hoses are hot on both sides(indicating the engine is at full temp) and you feel the heat controller in dash is working properly, i would suggest disconnecting both heater hoses and backflush heater core with decent amount of pressure. if this improves condition but does not solve completely, heater core replacement is necessary.
